new pay offer
i'm not that good at maths, so sorry if i've got it wrong,
my 1st calculation brings me to a FT getting around £20 p/w raise from last october, (not april?)
from october 2018 we will drop to 38hrs thus our basic pay dropping around £11 p/w
from october 2019 we then drop to 37hrs and with the further 2% raise just been added in april 2019 our basic pay will be just £6 p/w more than now, but working 2hrs less for it
does that sound about right?
looks like to maintain our current standard of living we'll have to do a few hours overtime, or am i missing something?

You're missing the fact that we won't be losing an hours pay when we drop down to 38 hours per week! Or when that goes down to 37 hours.

I'm pretty sure pay remains the same, the drop in hours won't effect the weekly amount paid. So the hourly will go up slightly. Isn't it about 12 quid currently? So divide whatever you full-timers get currently over 38, not 39. That'll be your hourly.

The offer could have been worded better, but you've got it all wrong.
Firstly when the weekly hours reduce our pay stays the same, so in effect it is a pay rise. They say 2 hours reduction is equivalent to an extra 5.33% pay increase. We get paid weekly and not hourly.
Secondly, we are ineffect being back paid to April 2017. This year is a 2.5% pay increase with next yeat being another 2.5% pay increase, therefore in total 5 %. Being paid 5% from 1st oct (half of year) is the same has being paid 2.5% from april 17.

what i'm on about is in october 2019 my basic pay will be only £6 more than today, factor in the cost of living increases into that and those 2 hours we work less won't be spent playing football with the kids or having a cheeky few pints, it'll probably mean having to work 2 hours more to help pay the rent/mortgage

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We might be working less hours but an increase in real terms would have been better. Money makes the world go round. 3:30 finish, that kills the school run, not a good deal in my eyes

Well you could have a 4:30 finish or even 5:00 as RM were proposing for £250 take it or leave it lump sum one off. The thing that gets me is this change in culture and what we will have to do in the future?gunho wrote:We might be working less hours but an increase in real terms would have been better.
