Let me start by thanking you for helping us to deliver a successful Christmas.

It was a tough December for us in terms of the weather. We had snow, high winds and a lot of rain, while we faced road closures that had a significant impact on the operation. We also had to contend with the outbreak of the flu virus that is putting pressure on the NHS.

Despite this, you rose to the challenge, as you always do.

Staying at number one

We recently announced our results for the nine months to 24 December 2017.

On parcels, we delivered another strong performance. The number of parcels we handled in the UK was up 6% and the money we earn from parcels up 4%. We handled 149 million parcels during the December trading period, 6% higher than the same period last year.

There was strong growth in Amazon parcel traffic, and our Tracked services have grown 31%.

On letters, our performance was better than expected. The number of addressed letters we handled was down 5%, excluding mailings related to last year’s General Election.

Back to basics

Now that our busiest period is over, it’s really important that we focus on delivering a great service to our customers, day in day out. We are number one in the parcels market due to our significant investments to improve our customer offering and deliver an excellent service.

To retain that business we have to deliver an excellent Quality of Service.

That’s why customers pay us a premium. As I’ve said before, we won’t always be the cheapest but we have to be the best. That means scanning every item, delivering to a neighbour and making sure you follow our core business standards.

Recognising brilliance

Our business is full of people who go the extra mile. This month, we’re launching our Local Hero Awards to celebrate your brilliance.

If you know someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty then please let us know about them.

Celebrating our diversity

We’re proud of the diverse nature of our workforce. We’re committed to putting equality, diversity and respect at the heart of our business.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Compared to what the business was saying about us 3 months ago comparing us to Yodel to now admitting that being the best and offering customers quality of service is key is the best news I've heard this year.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
