Speeding on delivery?

I was doing 35mph in a 30mph zone and think a hidden police speed van may have zapped me. What happens or what is the process at Royal Mail regarding this? Would it just be a fine and points on my licence, or would it be worse?

National police guidelines for speeding are 10% plus 2. So in a 30mph the lowest they would prosecute is 35mph.
Having said that most forces offer a "speed awareness course" it costs the same as the fine but it saves the points on your license and you don't have to declare it to your insurers. So you save in the long run.
No idea on how RM will view it.

Sorry to hear about this,wee all do it from time to time.Should be usual process as far as police are concerned IF you were caught a fine and points or a driving awareness
course instead of the point.As for Royal mail you might have to go on a driver training day,but i really don't think anything worse than that will happen.

Chances are you were only doing 32-33mph anyway. Cars tend to over-read, it's a built-in protection from the manufacturer so you don't sue them every time you get a ticket, If you plug in your SatNav and bomb down the motorway ( at a legal speed ) you'll see the difference.

The only thing is the natural reaction when you think you've been done is to lift off or brake before you look at the speedo so you might be kidding yourself.

If there are guidelines then the police can and do choose when to ignore them.

You can get done for doing 31 in a 30. I got done for doing 32 and 33. There's a thread about it on this very forum somewhere.

I've been done for speeding in a Royal Mail Van. Talk about being livid. I knew the bloody camera was there but rushed to get a special done!

No shite from RM just got the points and a fine.

Remember though that you are the Driver and it's ALWAYS going to be your fault (and your license). Especially concerning things like bald tyres & inop lights. If you're a Reserve make sure you carry out those vehicle checks!

If you're a driver full stop, do vehicle checks. Don't they give you 9 minutes or something to do checks, just do a walk round everyday to check for mysterious new damage.

I agree. I wasn't just telling Reserves to check the vehicles. If you're the Regular Duty Holder you have a pretty good idea of the state of your van. It's normally the Reserves, who are swapping vans regularly, that often get caught out by that bald tyre or broken headlamp.

I always give the van a once over after my day off.... just in case someones had a fender bender!

You won't get in trouble from work for anything that doesn't affect them. If you get a speeding ticket then they'll pass it on to you. If you get 9 points then there may be a problem with company insurance but should be ok.
