Proud to be in Royal Mail

I see the media is banging on about equal pay between the sexes. Royal Mail, is one of the largest companies in the country and my female counterparts in all jobs earn the same as me; (myself being a HGV DVR) yet we are never used as an example for others to conform to. Why? Is it that the "media" would hate to admit that our union is responsible for this and the power of the people when used wisely helps both us and those in charge.

The media don't criticise the royal mail every week or day.

Your right mobey, but my criticism is at the media what they want us to believe, the NHS sadly gets knocked because it's an easy target that effects us all, their benefits: Holidays, hours, pay is down to a strong union. All governments whatever their persuasion just want to use the employees as cheaply to save money for other uses. ???

Gender pay gap is a myth

The gender pay gap doesn't affect most standardised jobs or where there are a lot of people doing exactly the same type of job. I think it is more a problem where people are getting paid a lot of money anyway. Examples of this would be creative industries eg design work, boardrooms and company directors, bankers, estate agents. Obviously some of these people jobs have bad reputations eg bankers so most of us won't worry to much about this problem. I expect there are some cases within the range where women are being underpaid and that should be sorted out.

Not being funny, but why is it gender norms are still in place when it comes to the actual work we do, women want the same pay as men, but if you look at the work we do sometimes not always women get treated easier in this business, they won't be given duties that are as hard for fear of scaring them away from the job, or they'll get family friendly hours when a bloke would really struggle to make the same argument, and RM give them a lot more opportunities, they had a "springboard" event recently solely for women to encourage progression in the company.

Simply put,

Men usually get paid more because men typically negotiate better.

I remember when danger, physical effort and being out in all weathers meant higher pay and that's why, for example, construction workers earned more than cleaners and consequently men on average earned more than women.
