Going Sick
Developed a chest infection on new years day and wasnt fit to attend for duty thid morning.Phoned in to report and was told that I sounded hungover and was my absence due to excess alcohol consumption.I was shocked at this accusation as id only been sick for 1 day in the last 18 months. Was informed that id need to see a doctor today.I managed to get an appointment and sure enough chest infection was diagnosed and antibiotics issued.I took photo of prescription and sent to manager. Then received a letter saying I need to attend for interview tomorrow morning at 7am.Texted line manager and said I wasnt well enough to attend and could someone visit at my home address.Manager also sent text saying that it had been noted on facebook that I was in the pub on NYE and this was the reson why my absence two days later was due to excess alcohol. Is this standard procedure?

No it’s not procedure.
It’s 2 days after NYE, your manager isn’t a doctor. You didn’t have to go to see a doctor as you can self certify for 7 days. And I’d say it’s too soon for a meeting but yep him if he insists on meeting he’s welcome to meet somewhere closer than the office but be wary as you are very contagious so he will fold.
Contact the union and put in a grievance if you like

If your manager turns up. Make sure you make him a lovely brew and give the rim of his cup a good licking

Absolute bastards. Tell them you aren’t well enough to come in tomorrow and you will let them know when you’re feeling well enough to come back to work. What you did on NYE has nothing to do with why you’re off and it’s none of their business!

I always thought they could only insist on a 'meeting' after around a month of being off? Grievance put in without a doubt though.

Why are so many people allowing themselves to be bullied by management??
The attendance procedure is available online. Take some time to read it and then tell your manager to do one.

Because if you have been there less than two year's they can review your contract or not offer a new one.number one wrote:Why are so many people allowing themselves to be bullied by management??

No your wrong it happens I speak to people who have been there less than two years not only this but cutting off also refusing overtime not coming in before time also refusing being moved to other office's and the big one NOT BEING PAID FOR GOING OVER THEIR HOURS it is no wonder people go sick putting up with all this s**t! Trouble is some people don't listen and just dictate well I do listen what is your stance on this I care seams you only defend the wrong's and not the right's of people who work in our industry!number one wrote:k979aaa wrote:Because if you have been there less than two year's they can review your contract or not offer a new one.number one wrote:Why are so many people allowing themselves to be bullied by management??

It is very difficult to fix the problem where walks in an office have been made too long and either the RM system for determining walk lengths and/or the person/s timing walks say the walk/s are correct. I have pretty much given up on trying to get this one sorted with the only possible option left to put it in the hands of somewhere like the Channel Four investigation team. The CWU and the RM are pretty much on the same page on this issue as well as some others.k979aaa wrote:No your wrong it happens I speak to people who have been there less than two years not only this but cutting off also refusing overtime not coming in before time also refusing being moved to other office's and the big one NOT BEING PAID FOR GOING OVER THEIR HOURS it is no wonder people go sick putting up with all this s**t! Wrong.
The next big problem on the horizon will be when further or total automation is brought to bear in MCs. At that point RM are going to want an additional decrease in walk numbers or more lapsing/absorption. We are at breaking point now and I'm certain we cannot go any further down that route in our DO or in most other DOs.
