Royal Mail apologises for delays in delivering festive post - Oakham

Not just Oakham - where ever that is!

Even on 29th still delivering cards postmarked before the 18th Dec. RM blame bad weather - did that delay some lorries for 6 days between mail centres.

Useless management as usual. We had less help than any previous year, no extra sorters on the busiest days, mail centre sending yorks of tracked items not for our office, No spare PDA's for any extra helpers - useless PDA's that were slower than my my old windows 4.2 desktop.

Parcels having to be sorted then left outside, not under cover, due to the volume and lack of space, and WHY do we get parcels measuring over 2ft x 2ft square? You try posting that at the post office, and they will tell you it has to go Parcelforce.

What size van do you think I got.
Vans that have had faults and been reported for months finally giving up when it get cold and busy.

Our office having been told to 'make an effort' (and it was an effort I can tell you), to deliver in the snow, then another office just 10 miles away told not to go out.

There - I'll think of some more later.

Don't worry,when the next edition of the courier arrives on your doormat it will be full of great news thanking us all for pulling together and due to the months of intensive planning including taking on thousands of temp staff we delivered the best Christmas ever !!

It appears to have been a decision made higher up in 'management' to side aside the cards & letters in favour of clearing all the packets & parcels. The backlog is very slowly feeding back into DOs now. In the long term it could be a very damaging decision for the business. No one wants to spend a load of money sending Xmas cards to find they are delivered in January & February instead! This situation definitely had nothing to do with any of the bad weather we had.

Whether you go out on delivery is largely to do with your DOMs view on H&S. Most DOMs dump the responsibility and blame for any decision on whether to go out in the snow on the Postie's. Some will care though and make a good decision.

Royal Mail apologising!!! What a joke,blaming the weather,blaming sickness,blaming everything except themselves!!!!!! Penny pinching,cutbacks,not putting extra staff in,useless managers that the only thing that they are good at is bullying staff to breaking point. Posties are being given more and more unacheivable targets that are just impossible.You cannot put a square peg in a round hole.Royal Mail used to be a national,treasured institution,which is becoming a national disgrace.I just hope the public dont blame the postie,as no way is this mess their fault.

Stories hitting the news up and down the land of Xmas mail being delivered late and its the same old story Royal mail blaming it on sickness and everything else apart from the fact they have tried to get Christmas done on the cheap and its backfired

If your van has a fault and you put a PMT in it is illegal to drive it without it being signed off by a technician

I think it was a smart choice, it was either that or delay the parcels, I know which id rather have before xmas. That choice aside RMs unwillingness to actually pay something out to get xmas clear is a scandal.

Why do we have 2 yorks full of missorts and outgoing redirections from 22/12 to present still stuck in our office??
This is the only job I know that the managers do when we are out!
We've got 5 managers plus a plethura of bodies in rle etc.
Heads should roll, no need for these delays, A lot of christmas cards here still to be delivered , COURTESY OF ALL OF THE LAZY DIMS AND DOMS . It is now 2nd january, you will soon see these cards hopefully in your frames , I may mark them and track them for w/d purposes.

Here as well; we have one even the drivers door doesn't lock and hasn't done for weeks, still being used despite numerous times of asking, form filling, etc. to get it fixed.

You put a van into the workshop in our area and on its return you'll find P739's from other local offices.

I've seen that before too. It isn't uncommon. They should have written in the log book as well.
