Talks Resume

The end is nigh as talks resume between the CWU & Royal Mail 3rd, 4th & 5th January.
Then on the 9th an update is due from the union.

Inevitably the rumours will also resume interim, It will be interesting to see if any breakdown occurs to certain aspects of the four pillars already agreed.

I'm 60/40 on a breakdown. Everything seems too good to be true after the last year and RM's attitude. Perhaps the 90% really did make a difference ... but then perhaps they don't care anyway now.

Reading the The Voice that came today it looks like nothing is agreed and only slight progress has been made but not enough in my book.

It is time to strike my friends and make this company give a decent working wage, a decent pension and decent respectful working conditions.

I expect many unofficial walk outs this year across the country with the cause being bullying and workloads.

Roll on 2018, let battle commence.

The "voice" does state the company has agreed to introduce the new pension scheme as quickly as possible.

Although Terry Pullinger states "... We have still not agreed either the transitional arrangements - should they be required - or the contribution rates of the employer in any final new scheme...."

As Terry Pullinger said pre-Christmas update "There won't be an agreement unless we get an agreement on everything"

I am frankly amazed that so many members think the Union revolves around us posties.

They represent others, have different industrial campaigns, and have ongoing political issues that affect us directly.

Also just because they aren't sat around a table talking to Royal Mail in a formal way, doesn't mean that informal discussions are not going on as well. Email and Text exist even at both HQs.

As I understood it in The Voice TP said that the union and RM were still a long way apart on things, the talks are on a knife edge and it could go either way at the moment. Seemed a slightly different tone to the video message a couple of weeks ago where he seemed very optimistic of a good deal.

The last update suggests that we’re going to get the usual from the union, we’ve got you a great deal, the best we’ll get! We’ve went from no later start to we have to move with the times on pullingers last video. Same old union no bottle and being used as puppets!

I disagree we did not go for no later starts we went that we did not want a 9-5 job or much later finishes with our members working in the dark.

Remember within any deal we will have a shorter working week which will for the first hour mean delivery staff starting 30 mins later on Monday and Tuesday or possibly 12 minutes later on each of your five days.

If we get a second hour off the working week it mean starting later again.

Whilst progress has been made on all the issues , there is still a lot of detail needed to be worked up and some principles established.

The CWU warned Royal Mail before Christmas If your just waiting to Christmas to be over than we will announcing strike action at the PEC meeting next Tuesday 9th.

Royal Mail said this was not the case as they need industrial stability to win new orders and keep the current contracts. When the CWU announce strike action a number of companies moved suppliers and some have come back and some are waiting . This is why Royal Mail want and need an agreement.

The talks which are happening this week are designed to now move the issues into a form of an agreement as there are not just one set of discussions going on , as there are at times seperate meetings on the pipeline , meetings on Pensions , Pay and SWW and meetings on the deployment of the Agreement Plan .

Why has it taken so long ? If you annayalise every single Mail Centre arrival profile for each post code Area , when it can be processed and how much , it’s arrival time into either MPU or DO and than the automiss of the CSS machine and what time that Work gets into each Delivery Office than it takes some time.

Additionally what time each Mail Centre will get the Later acceptance parcels in and what can connect with normal delivery times and what can’t.

This is the level of detail just on the pipeline which has to be anaylised and tested if there is going to be any agreement.

There is a Joint PEC / Divisional Reps meeting next Tuesday and we will see whether we have an agreement , are close and just need more time or if there are issues which are still not agreed and may need Industrial action to be unlocked.

Can't see later acceptance working at every MC. For some MCs anything that comes in later will just automatically fail as it might not have any chance of getting processed in time. Smaller MCs won't be able to keep their inward setups in place much past 06:00 as they'll need their inward cleared and out the door to set up their outward setups
