Can you drop from 5/6 days to 2/3?

Can a part timer actually be a part timer and only work a few days a week. Say 25 hours.. Wednesday/Thursday 6.45am to 7.15pm? Or is it completely unrealistic for a company spouting about mental health to actually accommodate a postie who's MH is suffering?

It is possible for various reasons not always health or family-related, although I would have thought a 13.5 hour shift on two consecutive days would meet with a variety of reasonable objections Some folk in my office work 24 hours over just Mon-Wed or just Thu-Sat. That is much more attainable as it fits with the typical working day. A lot will depend on your DOM and how she or he feels.

To the thread question. You can always ask to drop hours, and you can even ask to drop down the number of days. However, Royal Mail are under no obligation to accede to your request. If the request came under the Equality Act legislation then they would need to look at a reasonable adjustment, but even then its not guaranteed that they would accept your request in full. Mental Health issues can come under the EA.

As to the posted question. In that exact scenario, I would say they wouldn't comply with your request even though it came from you two consecutive 13 hours days may not be seen as reasonable. The reasonability is not just based on what you want, but also if its reasonable for RM, and also whether a Tribunal would consider it reasonable as well.

Contact your branch equality officer and see what they can advise, they may come up with a more reasonable request to put to Royal Mail, and in discussion with them may even come up with a better plan for you.

Going on my depot, spreading 25 hours over four days is the likely minimum, three day week is common for 22.5 hour.
