pressure from managment to use cars

You wouldnt believe the pressure a few of us are having to put up with to not use our cars.

Me and a few others basically about half a dozen in a office ten times that size have stopped using our cars, the pressure is immense, for the last three weeks we have put up with, harrasment, pressure, threats and well.....

The latest is that even our firends, who have picked us up recently (drivers) will not be allowed to in future( if they have time to pick us up they will have time to deliver more).

Please advise, do that have to bring us back to the office, if not can we cut off if walking is necessary?

You don't have to use your cars full stop.
RM cannot make you use your car.
You are protected under Appendix 3 of the Conduct code regarding "cutting off" on your delivery.
Why should you pay fuel and other costs for the sake of RM?
They should provide you with conveyance to your delivery and reimburse you for bus travel used if necessary back to the office.
They should provide safe drops for all your walk so you can deliver the walk safely and with enough time between each bag.
They should plan everything so that your duty is capable of being done within your time.
If they think you complete and you don't, take it all out and log it with the manager and get his/her phone number and call them 30-40 minutes before you finish telling them where the bag(s) you cannot complete are and let them come and sort them out.
You then go home, as you have finished your duty.
You work for them, you're there to sort and deliver mail, not sort out all the things that are their responsibility.

RM SHOULD do a lot of things, but seem to be unable to plan, or provide adequate facilities for their own staff. A caring, sharing firm with no idea how to run it's own beleaguered network. That's what you get for trying to shave costs down to absolutely nothing.

WELL the last agreement signed by royal mail was job and finish that was how the agreement was sold.
so i woul in form the dum in your office that you will be pouching of and returning any properly endorsed items to a post office using the blue pouch,surely you have a union rep in your office who should have informed you of all this?
if not mate use this forum and we will help you with anything,or as you seem to have the initiative to come on here why dont you take up the challenge and become the rep . go for it and stick it right up them brother

We've had this happening for years in our office. When I was on a town job, I would tell the DOM that I would be at so and so place at a certain time, and I expected them to send a van out for me, if I had to phone in for a lift back, I would then get 25P off them for my phone call. I used a trolley so couldn't bike it back, but if you can use a bike, make them drop a bike off at the end of the delivery, I didn't mind walking back sometimes, because by the time I'd walked back it was time to bugger off home.

If you have mail left to deliver, shove it in a pouch box or pouch drop and tell the DOM, he can then either pick it up or deliver it.

We don't have a rep in our office, we have a committee, when that's not enough call in the area rep.

We've had reps, but we have so many people who only think of themselves, and so much back biting, a committee seems to work best for us, we tend to meet the DOM as a committee, which should give us a good chance of having a number of different views, you do have a few on the committee like me who are more mouthy than others, but I like asking awkward questions :) We don't get any facility time for Reps in our office, with over a 100 people it such a thankless job.

surely with over 100 people in your office they deserve proper representation why dont you do as your name says and give it a go, as you say you are the gobby one and ask a lot of awkward questions just be sure that your mates will back you up.

No thanks, I don't mind working on the committee, but I'm not giving up most of my free time, to fight for half the office who came over the picket. I've seen what it can do for you when a high proportion of the office won't back you, and can't even be bothered to listen to you or come to union meetings.
For me the committee works best.

if you were a rep, royal mail have to alocate time for you within you duty time.

as for taking the work home with you , well i bet you do that with the committee anyway surley you think about whats been done in your office once or twive a day?

and for not doing it because half your office are strike breakers well your not doing it for them your doing it for yourself and those who will openly support you.
