Flexability Could It Be That Bad ???
I know i will probably get slated for this but here me out, In the last few years all it's been is job and knock, get in early, get out as fast as you can and use your own car, this was a union mans nightmare (Been There) and OUR own undoing, BUT if flexability came in IT SOULD put people back on the vans to do the job properley.
How flexable can you be IF you are working your FULL duty???
As we ALL know WE should actually do alot less AND if worked correctley should put more time into your office AND kill off flexability for good!!!
OR am i totally missunderstanding this flexability thing???

I know where you are coming from DD, and any sane person wants to see the end of Job n' Finish. However, doing the job properly can be done in the here and NOW. No flexibility is required for this. The over-arching problem with 'flexibility' is that it would be a very unfair weapon in the hands of a typical RM manager, i.e. favouritism, B/H etc.
Balance the duties and work your hours, end of.

Another point is that Postcomm regulations stipulate that town walks must be delivered by 2pm, while rural deliveries must be delivered by 3pm.Delivery Donkey wrote:I know i will probably get slated for this but here me out, In the last few years all it's been is job and knock, get in early, get out as fast as you can and use your own car, this was a union mans nightmare (Been There) and OUR own undoing, BUT if flexability came in IT SOULD put people back on the vans to do the job properley.

If members insist that they take their breaks during their duty and not at the end, then the latest that deliveries can be constructed to end would be these regulated times plus possibly the time taken to return to the office.
Therefore any "longs" implemented on a town walk could only be put at the begining of the delivery, which would mean starting your duty before 6.
So just how flexible can they be?

i know there's the chance of favouritism from management BUT when have you known any manager not to have there blue eyed members of staff no matter what system we have.
If people are going to get stung for extra work using there own cars YOU would think they would only be STUPID enough to get caught once before they twig onto the fact that other people in there office who are on R/M transport are doing alot less then them...

Postcomm have been very accomodating to messrs C + L so far ie. suspended QS targets ,accepted sham accounts. They work hand in glove ,let no one be fooled by their pantomime

It has been confirmed to Royal Mail by Postcomm that they cannot construct their duties to deliver past the regulated times.

Oh thats abig relief, how long do you think it will last. If it stays it will make RM's plan of staggered deliveries throughout the day unworkable. In fact it will seriously undermine their whole business model regarding mechanisation and modernisation. It would probably require a four fold increase in RM,s projected budget for new equipment and associated real estate not to mention staffing levels.
Given the cost cutting culture don't think they'll be to happy with lots of expensive kit standing idle for much of the day,If I was running a business Iwould'nt, now a service ,well thats different

We had a WTL this morning, where the main Boss tried to explain 'flexibility' to us.
To be honest he was scratching his head as to how it would be implemented.
But the picture i got was.....if the mail was light on a Tuesday, then management could say..Ok lads you'll all be finished by 12.00 today,so you will owe us 2 hours.
Then on the next day if the lad goes sick next to you....you will be told to take 2 hours of his delivery out,to give the hours back........meaning you will be out until 4.00 for no extra pay!!......This is how it appeared to me...Crazy unfair & unworkable!!
