Decided to post this as i've been done today,not by us but by a catalogue courier,behind me wheelie bin with a note in me door.
If i'm honest,i do it now and again,not blatant like,mainly flats with time locks,we've got a lot of 4 flat buildings.
Never had a complaint yet,but tbh doesn't happen a lot.

I see couriers doing it all the time,don't do it myself been a bit of bother before in my office with doorstepping, leave packets in greenhouses, sheds etc,Some guys have left packets in wheelie bins but it's come back on them cos they didn't know the people are on holiday and the neighbors have put the bin out.
Never done it unless I've checked with householder beforehand. In fact most on my regular route know that I call in the cafe and if they miss me at home they usually catch me there. If I know them I'll give them the packet and I take the Form left back.
One form left was brought in after Christmas at our callers office and all it said in a horrible scrawl was "left in green bin". No date, no name and no address, and to make it worse it was student flats, and the bins had just been emptied before term started.
You need a system with the customer and this is why it's better to have your own round rather than be all over the office. All my lot know me by name and know they can trust me. I don't blatantly doorstep, but have been told by numerous customers that I can put packets in certain hiding places. Garage, shed, porch, etc. The shops on my round are sometimes not open as I get that bit done first so it's 8-9 when I'm there. If one shops open they'll take another shops packets.
I have two ebay full timers and several 2nd homers and a night shift worker who allow me to sign for recordeds and regs, I made them put that in writing to my line manager first so back covered.
I also leave the office with two bags and leave one in a shed because I know I can do two bags before the driver's been to my drop point.
My delivery is 9.5 miles from the office where there is no parking so i do help customers out if i can see a safe out of site and dry place to leave the item. Sometimes a shed or green house if its near the house. Always put a card through.

I "hide" things on their property, I don't just doorstep it. Then P739 telling them where I've hidden it.
Always out of sight and undercover. I did think about leaving cryptic clues but given the amount of people that turn up at the D.O. trying to collect things from City Link/DHL etc, I didn't think anything too clever would be a good idea...
