It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Great, so London gets a 3pm - 3.30pm last letter time and us rurals in the back of beyond get a last letter time of 4.30pm in the dark of winter.

If RM want 90% sequenced on the 1st wave then the first wave will probably have to start somewhere between 00:00 and 01:00 (maybe later on a busy day), so your sequenced mail would come in at least an hour later. On a busy day you'd get either 2 lots of wave 1 or what's left over after 20 boxes have been run on wave 1 would have to be left for wave 2 so you'd potentially get 15+ boxes of mail that's either walk sorted or unsequenced. It would be no good just sending them 15 boxes back to the MC as the MC would just send them straight back to you as there wouldn't be the capacity to run them.

If the mail arrives in the MCs later it's going to go out to DOs later, especially with an hour being lost per day with the 35hr week so the 9-5 like or not will be a possibility for DOs

So what you are saying is the Deliveries HAVE to change but Mail Centres won't.

Sorry, that won't wash with deliveries, nor will it wash with Royal Mail. Hopefully, the Union will also see sense.

The later that the mail comes in and the later that we start in MCs, the later it'll get out to DOs

Rumour has it in our area that 1-2 of the CSS machines from one office are being stripped down and moved to another office where they'll be running 3 shifts on them with the CSS machines that are already in there. To get them in they'll be cutting down the numbers of walks/frames in that office via the data captured off the PDA's.

Go figure.

Is the office that might be losing the CSS machines an MPU or MC? Does the parent MC use IMPs or iLSMs? I can't see them being able to find enough work to run through them for 3 shifts per day

Imagine loading and running all that mail at once on those machines, I can see more machines breaking down.....

Do Royal Mail intend to build more of these machines now or does one suspect that they will 'trial' the one wave of mail theory first on the machines that they have currently got and hope that staff will be somehow willing to work till 5pm?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Both are DO's with CSS machines in them.

To do one wave they'll probably need to double the number of stacker modules per CSS, possibly have a much longer feed belt as well. The current machines really could do with a good overhaul

Whatever doesnt get sequenced and sent to do's will be left until the next day. Probably ask people to sort/prep it early next morning. Mail gets "stood down" all the time when trucks turn up late. Just goes next day

The CSS Machines are optimised for 20 stackers. Hence they now running at full potential.

When Royal Mail decided to buy the CSS machines in 2005/6 it was seen as a 10 year project. Remenber then letter volumes were increasing.
We are now here in 2017/18 and RM are looking at the new Flat Sequencing Machines , Later Deliveres , closure of MPUs etc
Another 10 year project...
Big changes on the way I suspect.

I agree if the Union shafts deliveres " again" or if it's remotely seen as such by Members in DOs the future of the Union is in serious trouble.
The CWU must play this right.

Most batches now are getting to the point where they need permanently splitting into 2 with just half a dozen walks per batch

If RM get them, they could possibly replace all IMPs, iLSMs and CSS machines. Don't know if they could also replace all the T2K machines as well
