Agency drivers at Gatwick

Why have RM got rid of drivers at Gatwick MC and replaced them with Agency drivers ??
They may think they are saving money on less RM drivers but almost every day the agency drivers get lost on route and we are waiting around for the walksorted mail and tracked and parcels sometimes 30 mins late .
Yes we can cut off but where is the saving when people are going over or cutting off

add to this the incredibly high turnover of people you get from agencies, no ones around long enough to learn what theyre supposed to be doing, so its in constant flux of basically new people doing a job which takes them 50% +longer than a regular.

It shouldn't be allowed. Agency should only be called in to cover absences on existing duties held by RM staff.

False economy as well. It costs more to use agency staff than a normal employee. It’s fine to use them when the workload maybe excessive or at times of high sickness levels but to use them long term as RM do is economic madness.

Not really, they haven't got to factor in holiday pay/sick leave/pensions/uniform, and have total flexibility over hours. That's why the business love agency.

I think you may be surprised at how much an agency worker costs. I’m only going on what our manager was saying a couple of weeks ago and I was shocked at the cost. If it was that cheap and easy delivery offices would be flooded with them by now.

Indeed I was an agency worker about 20 years ago after getting demobbed and even back then pay per hour was around £6, but the agency was charging where I was working between £20 and £25 an hour. In fact, the firm bought out my contract from the agency because it was cheaper in the long run. I think they paid about £1800 - £2000.
