Would be very grateful if someone could clarify an issue that has arisen in our office. Basically, in our review process (currently ongoing) we have had a preference exercise which has identified my duty as being made to part-time. There are no full-time duties left within our Unit (although..as other divisions within the unit implement their review processes, one duty may become available) and basically I have been told by a rep and a manager that they have no alternative but to move me to another Unit in a different area (because there is an available duty at that unit). I realise this is not an unreasonable request and I have looked at that the MTSF agreement etc. Although, what does leave me perplexed is the fact that I am high on the seniority list with other full-timers that have been in a lot (and I mean a lot) less time than me. My question is this : Does my seniority level within my unit (and given the fact that I am high on the senority list amongst all divisions within the Unit) count for anything ? Do I have the right (or option) to refuse this transfer to another Unit on the grounds that I have a hell of a lot more seniority than other OPG's within the Unit (i.e. last in - first out basis) ?. Any help appreciated

I urge all my fellow postal workers everywhere to read this and share it.... send it to our your Union representatives as a clear message.
RESTORE SENIORITY OR WE WILL LEAVE THE UNION
We members of the CWU need to go on the offensive on this issue because it is all we have left that is any good.. Speaking for myself, I have over the many years since the way forward agreement watched the CWU and Royal Mail jointly and slowly erode all we have fought for over the years.. with agreements we the members never had a chance to vote for..
Now I hear the CWU have agreed with Royal mail to ignore Seniority... WTF
Over the next weeks and months as the re-sign at Wolverhampton begins seniority is going to be a big issue the union need to listen to its members and Wolverhampton or prepare to loose many of its members.
Seniority is Important......... It means that duties at work are allocated on the basis of how long you have worked for Royal Mail. And that's is exactly how it should stay.
The system was introduced in 1860 to stop people bribing managers or getting easier rounds through corruption of other sorts. Royal Mail say they want to get rid of seniority because it goes against sex, race and age equality laws. This is the only fair method to use.
The real reason that Royal Mail want to do away with seniority is so the management will be able to pick and choose promotions on the basis of how well you toe the line (suck Up) They want Yes men, Its as simple as that....... to reward the blue-eyed boys and girls as they see fit.
This is also linked to introducing team working where someone is plucked from the shop floor and become lords over over their work colleges. Royal Mail want to do away with line managers altogether.
Seniority is the fairest method of allocating jobs. It also rewards long service of Employees for there loyalty to the Business. I am utterly disgusted that Our Union going to dismiss its long-term members rights to Seniority its a disgrace when posties get older seniority gives them a chance sign for a easier job as it should do?

Got to agree with the above someone with a lot of years in being made to move to a different office is a disgrace and for me is far worse than some of the things we are going to strike for

pissing against the wind, nothing against any postie no matter how long employed,
on our latest cull we saw newer starters get fixed duties on pt hours when a few long term ft were kicked off their own and forced on cover or reserve duties, one ft'er even dropped 9hrs p/w to keep his own duty!
nobody was made up to ft to cover this either

If you have no duty then the MTFS agreement will apply if there is not a duty for you or it is not feasible for you would be entitled to VR or EVR depending on age if I was you both would interest me as for bumping someone from a location near you may be interested in going and you could do that job at the end of the day only you can tell what is good for you!
