Can anyone tell me what is the differance between an area distrabution driver and a network driver. I drive 600's from time to time and am classed as a professional driver, however it says that we both dont get the £175 but the 1st gets the 5.2% from october but the 2nd has to wait untill april to get 2.5%, so which one do i come under. I've talked to my unit rep and he dosen't know, how about you nice people, any ideas?

If you drive 600's regularly you should be classed as an inscope driver,these are usually drivers who work at mail centres but do not drive larger 19 ton or artics.If you only drive upto 600's then you are not a network driver they drive usally distant runs and are driving artics.Also if you are an inscope driver you should be on a basic of 380.00 per week and you would be a restricted driver,so your pay should have been increased I think it was about April of this year.If you drive non tacho vehicles then you come under domestic driving rules not EU rules so you only get paid as a normal postie,therefore area and network driver had a large payrise last april.Hope thiis makes sense,and also you should be telling your rep to get his arse in gear and find out the rules otherwise you may be breaking the law and you yourself are responsible for knowing the rules and can be fined accordingly.

sounds like you could be an occasional 600 driver. as such your normal dutys may be light van work but you may occasionaly drive 600 vehicles as cover for sick or leave, either as o.t. or duty.when covering as duty you would receive the difference between your normal basic pay(£323ish) and £380 as a supliment, pro rata.
more importantly , this occasional driving has implications in to the amount of work you can do in any given week and also the amount of set rest periods you should take between shifts.this can even effect rest periods and working hours for up to 6 months(26 week reference period)if you cover often enough.
as a 600 driver you should have road transport directive/working time directive training as a minimum.

in relation to pay, if you are an occasional driver, o.p.g grade, then all the ellements of the pay deal(including £175 payment) would apply to you.

If you are one of the professional driver grades you will have had letters from crozier telling you that you've had your pay rise in April and that the dispute is nothing to do with you. furthermore he will do everything possible to help you come to work as normal.

The drivers in our office were called to a meeting on sat the 27th and told that if they agree to go part time on 30 hour contracts they will be given £15,000 lump sums.For an industry that keeps claiming poverty can anyone tell me where they keep finding this money

Thanks people, I only became a pro driver about 3 months ago, as they were having probs covering the nights and early taillift jobs, so i did get a " pay rise " but did not get letter from anybody about the drivers having their pay rise already, also asked my area rep a week or so ago but i have not seen him since about an answer. Thanks for giving the advice on hours etc i did know about that, i was told that because we could only do 26 hours o/t a fortnight we got more basic pay if you see what i mean.
So from what i can gather from you guys the pro drivers in our office get
1) The £175 lump sum
2) 5.2% pay rise
The rest of the pro drivers have been asking me to ask you lot and i said that as soon as i get an answer i'd let them know, once again thanks for your help

almost correct, no £175 for pro drivers though as our next pay date was 1st Oct. OPG s pay date was april so in effect they are receiving £175 compensation for pay deal not being back dated.

Ok thanks for the info, will pass the message on. Don't be too hard on our unit rep, he does his best in a time when his job is almost impossible.

I am a 600 driver at a mail center on earlies doing Delivery office runs,got the extra allowance earlier this year and have just found out that i wont get the £175.00 lump sum should the deal be accepted.Why are we not getting the lump sum?the extra allowance is just that,RM are treating it as a pay rise and therefore state we dont qualify for the lump sum.

Have i misread something when we got the increased 600 allowance.

I kind of agree with you, I thought we got the extra money because we cant do as much o/t as everyone else ie 13 hours a week instead of 30 hours plus in some cases, however I've given up trying to work this one out. To be honest every time i read this agreement i see something else that will potentionaly screw me up, i mean its ok to say that management will consider your circumstances when they ask you to cover part of someone elses job when they go sick, or working shorts and longs but my duty now finishes at 14:15, i have to collect my kids from school at 15:00 and it takes me 30 mins to get from work to school, hence leaving me 15 mins to do extra work, or am i supposed to let my 8 year old son walk 1/2 a mile home on his own, if the management are stuck what will they think is more important my circumstances or their jobs.

Sorry for the rant everyone but i really care about my job and all i see are people who know nothing about giving a good service just people caring about profit

the profesional drivers agreement was voted in by an overwhelming majority back in March.this was done by means of a work place ballot. in that agreement it states that profesional drivers in area distribution(you and i my friend) won't be elligable for a pay rise untill Oct 07.OPG grades were due their pay rise in April 07. hence offer of £175 in respect of no back pay being offered for 6 month delay.

understand the point obout the pro drivers being compensated rather than it being a pay rise propper but that is what it says in the agreement, whole new grade, no driving allowance but an increase in basic pay.

could be worse, pro drivers in Network get bugger all untill April 08
