Just agree to multi-bundling!

Why doesn't the CWU just agree to trials of the multi-bundle method as long as the trials are extensive and last over many seasons to test it? We all know that it won't work and so the union can use this as a bargaining chip to get concessions in other areas all the time knowing that it will never be adopted as it isn't practicable.

Certainly not but Royal mail may have to see it fail before they will let it go. The savings from closing offices would be massive.

You realise the whole reason for multi-bundling is because of radical proposals to the pipeline. It's not just a whim by RM.

1. 95% of mail coming in sequenced to offices, means pushing everything back later, meaning you won't start til 10am-11am.
2. You will be expected to bench sort the remaining 5% of mail, so there will be no need for frames, meaning smaller offices can be incorporated into the bigger offices, allowing RM to sell off or give up leases to the redundant offices.
3. With such a high component of the mail being sequenced the route you deliver could change on the day dependent on workload, so basically enforced lapsing.

That's ridiculous, lets agree to everything that Royal Mail wants and then decide what works and what doesn't. By the law of averages,something should work. Not sure what though. I am certain Royal Mail would be only too happy to go back,to how things were.

Large letters probably will never be sequenced so you'll still have to sort them to walk in the DO. What about busy days when you have 20 boxes left over from a batch, i'd be surprised if that got walk sorted. More likely it would just be sent through as is and would also need sorting to walk in the DO

If say frames were done away with, and this bench sort etc. comes in. How would you be able to merge the mail if you were on a new round?

I wasn't saying this as a rule for every proposal Royal mail has. I just meant that multi-bundle will fail miserably in the UK due to dark afternoons in the winter and the erratic weather and terrain. In a health and safety mad society such as this it is bound to fail.

Once it's in, it's in. We were told deliver to neighbour was a trial, then we were told it took no extra time and we just had to suck it up, two years later were still arguing for extra time.

We were told collection on delivery was a trial, then we were told it took no extra time and we're still arguing for extra time.

It's funny talking about doing away with frames and having bench sorting... I remember many years ago, long before any of this had been mooted, having a dream where all the mail was in a huge pile in the middle of a great big table and we were all trying go through it and find letters for our individual walks.

Work for RM and all your dreams can come true!
