Delivery Method is Dangerous
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well this is Royal Mails strategy unfolding before their eyes this is what they want postmen/women juggling mail in the street by pulling it out of a ten pocket vest well if it's dangerous for Canada post why should it not be dangerous for us all!

Eugh. I'm just imagining wearing some honky garment used by some of my colleagues. That's a H&S risk before you even get out on delivery!

We've tried something similar... NOT OFFICIALLY.... We used to bundle up and get out on delivery, then when the last wave arrived the driver used to nip back to the Office and bring the mech sorted bundles out. He'd split them to match the Replenishment Drops that this particular Duty used.
It was still a pain in the arse as the mech is NEVER 100% correct as per Delivery, and often while you were working with one bundle you'd forget you had mail for that address in the second bundle and you'd forget to deliver it!
I believe ANY Experienced Postie could tell them this idea is a non starter but I'm sure Royal Mail will continue to try and hammer this particular square peg into a round hole, in the hope they can make some savings.

Quite. It's such a simple process made complicated, by too many layers of management. How the hell its survived 500 years is a miracle, especially the last decade with the current chief executive and her nonsensical ideas.Brandy wrote:I have never known a company chop and change working methods like RM do without thinking what the ramifications will be.What a shambles they are just trying to save a bit of money here and there!!![]()

It never will be, if your walk is on a busy batch, chances are that we'll have to split the workload in two and run it is two separate lots. With the waiting till 95% is avaiable thing that RM want to bring in, it'll happen way more often that there'll be too much mail to run it all in one hitDorset Plodder wrote:It was still a pain in the arse as the mech is NEVER 100% correct as per Delivery, and often while you were working with one bundle you'd forget you had mail for that address in the second bundle and you'd forget to deliver it!

Not having a Dig at the Processing Staff SP. A lot of Posties "Move" the Delivery phase around to make life easier, sometimes there's a few new builds and they're not added to the A Plus. I've changed the Delivery around and asked for the A Plus to be updated (even filled out the reams of paper they asked for) but keep getting told they haven't got the time to release someone to input it.SpacePhoenix wrote:It never will be, if your walk is on a busy batch, chances are that we'll have to split the workload in two and run it is two separate lots. What is the biggest accidents that happen in Royal Mail. Can you guess??
Yes, its slips and trips
Reading the address on the letter whilst walking, not looking where you are going. Try doing it in the dark with multiple bundles plus trying to type in a customers name on your PDA for a packet, and you can reasonably multiply the number of accidents that are going to happen. Honestly, RM as a responsible employer have to put the health & safety of its colleagues first, so it should be a total non-starter. The company should not even be considering it at all.

How much time would you save per day if the A+ was updated?Dorset Plodder wrote:Not having a Dig at the Processing Staff SP. It would make him/her out longer on delivery so be selective with your own information you give RM for your own sake!SpacePhoenix wrote:How much time would you save per day if the A+ was updated?Dorset Plodder wrote:Not having a Dig at the Processing Staff SP. An experienced postie on a duty he does daily - a few secondsSpacePhoenix wrote:How much time would you save per day if the A+ was updated?
A Day Cover on rotation - maybe 5 seconds.
An experienced reserve - 10 seconds
An experienced OPG on the round for the first time - 30 seconds.
A new starter 1 -2 minutes.
Figures based on finding the slot on the frame and putting it in.
