Weighted Items

As I was drinking my coffee yesterday that big propaganda screen burst in to life with a whole lot of info about how my DO had performed for week 24.
First time delivery, 2D scan etc but it also had our weighted items per gross man hour.
Given that this is the figure they want to base our future wage rises on I am surprised they have never communicated it to us.
I realise the union has reservations about it but nevertheless.......

My DO has a wigmh of about 130 which is about 5% under target.
Does everyone else know how their office is performing under this measurement and how does your DO compare?

So not only are our performance figures based on things that are beyond our control, now it'll cost us money?

Daft as some people might not have many catalogue on their walks compared to others. Who is going to keep record of weight of post.

I don't think it is anything to do with the physical weight of the items.
Try asking your DOM for an explanation and the performance of your office at WTLL.

Figures can be manipulated and guess who the money goes to and it ani't you or me just look at the 27% moya greene receives since our last industrial action!

In this case, "weight" has nothing to do with an items mass; but its how easily it can be handled and delivered.
Unfortunately the very helpful manager, who took the time to show us this has left the office no so I have no hope of seeing the exact numbers again but a simplified version is a letter might be given a worth 1 and a parcel 4.
This way sorting targets and achievements can be measured on "weight" rather than the number of items cleared per hour or minute.
So the argument for "mails down" can be countered with "but the weight is up".

total ammout of items may have fallen by 700.
that's factored in by to loss of for example 1000 letters (weighted at 1 per item = -1000 drop on "weight") but at the same time there has been an increase in parcels by 300 items (weighted at 4 = +1200 on "weight")
these figures tell us that even though there are less individual items coming into the office more manpower needs to be allocated to clear it.

Hope that makes some sense and clarifies a bit
