You said it! As soon as you see the term 'our people' you just know it's a dollop of crap.
The Industrial Workers of the World. The union whose members never scab!

just read the whole thing and I love it :Very Happy . . . . . . . . why ? because I'm sure that if I print that out and stick it on the board at work it will convince the doubters that the deal is complete shite and a vote of NO is the only possible answer . . . . . cheers RoyalMail :Applause

Unbelievable - this is the SAME offer we went out on strike over:

casual and flexible hours
covering sick/absent duties for NOTHING
below inflation pay offer (a pay CUT)
retirement at 65
40,000 job cuts as a result of automation

are we gonna accept this now after months of fighting? If we do I'm leaving the job.

• The union’s support for the company’s overall proposed pension reform. Royal Mail’s proposals include:
 Closing the final salary scheme to new members from 31 January 2008 and replacing it with a Defined Contribution scheme
 Protecting our existing employees’ pension pots built up before 1 April 2008, including keeping the link to final salary
 Introducing a Career Average Defined Benefit scheme for our existing employees from 1 April 2008
 Moving the normal retirement age from 60 to 65 from 1 April 2010.
 Existing members will be able to take the pension built up prior to April 2010 at age 60 or at any time after that paid in line with current scheme rules. Pension built up after April 2010 will be paid on an actuarially reduced basis if taken before 65 or unreduced if taken at 65.
Erm, haven't pensions been removed from the "new deal" to be discussed separately? Has our union capitulated? Or is :cfo lying as usual?

Please can somebody answer those questions. Thanks.

According to the Union letter to Branches 22/10.07 Item 3 in the Pay section states -

"We have decoupled any link between pay and pension reform. Pensions will now be dealt with separately as a group-wide issue and members will be balloted separately following the conclusion of the legal consultation process."

The Royal Mail document states -

So who is telling the truth? All I know is who will suffer.

Getting a bit absurd don't you think?
So we can have one strike for pensions,
Another over D2D's
And lots of little regional ones over flexibility etc, as this so called deal bites

If you wanted to turn a fighting union into a toothless wreck I couldn't think of a better way of achieving it

So the union supports keeping final pensions built up before april 08.The law of the land regulates that it's f**k all to do with the union or rm so dont let them kid you they are doing you a favour I'm sick of saying this but here i go again
the only way you can lose the pension already built up is if a company goes bankrupt. in this case the goverment. So lets have no more of this bollocks.

Stopped our DOm in full flight this morning. Telling people the pensions were linked to the ballot. A quick point of order later and he retreated quickly.
