Nothing you can always state facts. With evidence, preferably.

Free Speech has always had qualifiers. For instance, you cant go round shouting "Fire" when there isn't one. Also, you cant go round the pub and start calling people vulgar names. Both are illegal.

So state facts and opinions without abuse and you should be okay.

Don't forget we don't have rules to suppress free speech but to protect people from vindictive managers, and in some cases their own stupidity.

People have been sacked for less, Pompey, free speech is all fine and good in principle, the reality is very different.

A little paranoia and circumspection is needed and makes the difference between being in a job paying your bills or not

Just like X Files.
Trust no one as anyone could be a lurking manager, it's easy to spout off and forget the consequences.

The concept of "Free Speech" has never extended to criticising, defaming or abusing your employer on social media, as too many employees (not just in RM) have found out the hard way over the years. Whether you believe the criticism etc is true or justified is totally irrelevant, and some firms (like a well-known high street chemist chain) employ people to scan the web to find such posts. Not really worth losing your job over..

Posted on this loads of time, but basically a lack of personal security (PERSEC).

Everyone leaves clues about who they are without meaning to, sometimes just in the style and manner of posting. Others mention incidents which managers recognise. Then just one inappropriate posts and they'll pounce. Let's remember as well they don't need proof or even an admission its you, they just need reasonable belief.

You always leave a trail and people can piece together everything.

What you might find on a normal day and time you might get a slap on the wrist or knuckles, but because of the potential industrial action around the corner they will probably want to make an example of you.

Bit of advice.Royal Mail have rules best go by their rules you can't go wrong.Dont give them a chance to get rid.Use common sense.

I'd just like to reiterate that I am in fact an Australian National working in the Birmingham Area. As a young female employee I'd just like to say how much I admire our CEO Moya Greene, as she sets a fine example for us hard working gals.

OK. Wasn't being thick, but thought there might be a possibility of spying on IP addresses - that sort of thing.

I know that RM do monitor Youtube and Facebook. A few years ago some 600 drivers were conduct coded for some Youtube clips, while a Guvnor was slapped over his Facebook cover photo showing him worse for wear with a bottle of beer in his hand. Seems a bit harsh as I can think of one large UK company with a big drinking culture that let's it's staff get away with murder on Facebook - pics of company piss-ups, female workers posting semi-naked selfies etc etc.

Yes, and I've known trouble with posting on Facebook a seemingly innocent photograph of relaxing while still wearing Royal Mail uniform.
As has already been suggested we should all be very careful and treat this great company with the respect it deserves.
