Been looking into a transfer to my local DO and have to been told to make it official by handing in a request . Can anyone tell me is there is a form for this or would a hand written letter would suffice ?

all the transfers I have seen require a vacancy to be available at the office you wish to transfer to.
ring the DOM at that office and see if a place is available and that you wish to apply for it.

you apply like everyone else via my success factors / online and you will get the job there if no one else more senior to you apply for it.

your manager can't stop you transferring and it has to be completed within a month.
