350 pound lump sum payment.

Why would anyone choose a £350 lump sum over, as Royal Mail say an equivalent 1.5% pay rise?
A lump sum is a one off payment, that's it, no more. Whereas a 1.5% pay rise, we will get every year till we retire and it will get larger with every % pay rise we get.
Once an agreement is reached the £350 or the 1.5% pay rise (£350) will be in our pay at the same time, so why would anyone go for the lump sum.
Royal Mail saying that the £350 lump sum is equivalent to a 1.5% pay rise is complete LIES.
They don't want to give us a pay rise this year.
Please don't fall for it.

The reason why RM don't want to do a real pay rise just a lump sum is to also save future money on our pensions. As they intend to remove the link to final salary for Section C members from 1st April next year they certainly don't want to increase our pay this year. And I feel they won't budge on that just (perhaps) up the lump sum a little more!

Also if their own new DB cash back pension was so good why haven't they spent a little of their propaganda money on sending out far more in depth details on it? Or is it because it's just more smoke and mirrors?

Wrong! It's £375 not £350, it will also be consolidated into next years pay, 1.25% up to 3.5% meaning from April 2018 the 1.5% (£375) would be added 2.75%-4.75% over two years.
Taxable either way.
That's how undstand it.

If the lump sum does not flow through to overtime and allowances does that not equate to less than 1.5%?

The reason it's being offered as a lump sum is because it looks shiny, as it would allegedly be consolidated into pay next year it won't save the company any money going forward. By the time this dispute is resolved any pay rise for 2017 is likely to be mostly a lump sum anyway.

A lump sum is what it is a bribe do you really believe Moya's letter about it being consolidated into base pay next April this is a stalling tactic designed into pulling the rug from under the union which is us all it is a headline. What will you have to do for it that is the question does it say anything in the letter about this NO why because they are only telling you what they want you too hear! Negotiating is a tactic an art but when you tell the union one thing then promise the workers another thing without telling either one it is called duplicity HOW CAN WE TRUST ROYAL MAIL EVER AGAIN!

The biggest white elephant in the room for this year's pay talks is not about pay at all for me.
It is about signing up to a new pipeline that will be cheaper and will cost many jobs if we don't fight this.

Everyone's £375 will be pro-rata, based on their contract hours, rather than any overtime.

Not always true, but often this will mean even more of a reason for part time staff to laugh at this offer.

The last 4 months have been all about trying to brain wash all the decent people who work hard for Royal Mail and don't forget other parts who are involved,wtl sessions have drained me,pda going off every day talking bull s**t,let me tell you one thing we have a very strong union the cwu are spot on,the best,but the hard work starts tomorrow we all need to tell all members to vote yes to strike it's the best move you will ever make,I'm Peterborough office and will be cranking it right up tommorow,let's get a massive yes vote xxxxxxx

vote no if you want £300 extra but then see more lapsing IMMEDIATELY more whip cracking IMMEDIATELY and terrible conditions IMMEDIATELY because the managers will be brainwashed and promised £1000's extra to get us back to work and not strike.
They will have won and we would be left thinking what should I spend my wage rise on? maybe a bottle of pepsi from the canteen ! vote YES and bear it for a few weeks , it will be great again in the end , better than a quick £300.

Really are you getting that desperate you have to think we are all idiots.

A strike does not guarantee anything and anyone who has been on strike or is contemplating doing so for the first time is, or should be aware of that.

But one thing for certain is if you don't show the strength of feeling when you think somethings is wrong then management will always try to push the issue. That's all we are doing, pushing our issues, withdrawal of Labour is the ultimate tool for anyone, and it shouldn't be used lightly and without thinking of the consequences both good and bad.

Everyone should have the courage of their convictions and decide whether they are a YES or NO based on a balanced and reasonable view of the issues and consequences. But ultimately everyone has a duty to vote.
