How long before the Tory press run their usual lies?
It's all about not getting a pay rise etc...
Then the comments from idiots who know bugger all about the job and the real facts about the dispute..
Then the usual right wing brigade with their snide remarks.."SACK THE LOT OF THEM, THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE WHO WILL DO THE JOB"...yeh of course there are, that's why they can't fill the vacs, and why they've gone back to hiring casuals.

Question : can't the union do a door to door leaflet to all addresses in the uk, informing them of the facts?

You'll usually get the member of public slagging us off for taking strike action but all you need to do is ask them what the dispute is about. Of course they will not have a clue and will probably disappear back inside their house.

I don't think that "The public" are that gullible.
Yes they are sublect to all the press articles about us lazy postmen, but the vast majority of them face the same pressures as we do. Managers squeezing the pips out of them for not being able to do the work of three full time staff on their PT hours. Most people would not do our job.. They would not put up with the s**t we do day in day out. They would have resigned or gone on STRIKE long ago.
Why we put up with the s**t I will never understand...

I feel this could become a long dispute, the Southern Rail dispute is into it's 2nd year,with no end in sight.

That's with attacks on women and assaults on trains increasing. With these happening, any rail company would be thankful for a Guard walking up and down a train, but alas, it's all about profit. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

The public aren't bothered, all they want is stuff delivered as cheaply as possible, they don't really care who delivers it.

I don't think the Tory press actually lie on this story, they just can't be bothered getting facts and just say "pay and working conditions". In theory that is what everything boils down to in the end (except the death of Royal Mail of course but with so much competition does that matter :( )

But they're quite happy to complain when their item doesn't turn up/is left out in the rain/or returned to an office 20 miles away for them to collect

i reckon the public , a majority of the public , who comment on the work you do , especially when the weather is really bad , the ones who notice your getting later and later on your delivery would take note if they knew exactly what was happening within the workplace .

Yes saw that ad and someone had one pressed it guy on phone said just leave it x place said no it has to be secure he said lob it over fence did I sure did he only had to get it off his neighbours garden after all that these things can get you in a heap of s**t do not ring them!

Maybe if the public saw their mail being left in delivery offices days on end because we don't have the staff or hours to do it they would have a different opinion
