your office will be split up into 5/6 walk sections.

when someone is sick the other 5 in the section have to cover their walk same as when one of you is on holiday.

that's the basics of the system

tell them to stick it up their ass.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If they trial it, a few people with a clear sick record should phone in sick and see how it goes. You know, test worse case scenario.
When they come back next day you can throw stuff at them because you had to do their walk for no extra pay while they were sat at home feel 'a bit rough'

basically you would cover sick leave , annual leave in your group and for no extra overtime claim , so you would not have a finish time as you cant cut off, so that takes the pressure off doms to cover sick , a/l and they get it done for jack s**t. nahh don't think so.

I don't see how they can possibly, lawfully, enforce mandatory working over, especially without paying for it. How are posties expected to plan their social activities/doctor's appointments/picking children up etc without any idea of what time they are finished. Sounds like a big scare story to put us off the scent of what they are really after.

Legally they could do it but staff turnover would go through the roof

If there's any truth in the self managing grouping of walks, it effectively puts all reserves out of a job.

I think you have a point. I don't believe that the requirement of 'flexibility' built into contracts these days encompasses working for nothing.
Should also be said that in large rural swathes of the country RM have no accurate idea of volumes of mail going to specific areas.

I should think a few "managers" bums will be twitching over this.
