branch secretary was at ours today, to update people who don't know what's happening in the talks. a question was raised on the subject of how the strike will be implemented (presuming the talks fail and we get a yes vote) He said its been suggested by senior reps/executive that rolling strikes of two days a week on different sections, i.e. D.Os Monday/Tuesday, distribution Wednesday/Thursday data people Fridays/Saturday. He said its also been suggested a week a month of strikes, rather than 2 days. that way you would lose 5 days over the month rather than eight days if we were to strike for 2 days a week....any thoughts?

I'm sure that Royal Mail will be pulling out all the stops to dissuade staff from going on strike though - things like no Xmas bonus for those who strike.

Is there any chance that we could get Unite, the managers Union on board with ours to strike?? Wouldn't our managers stand to lose out more than us pension wise
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Managers had the chance to voice their concerns in a ballot - 28% turn out says it all....

Sorry, but once again it's "us" and "them"

A week strike across the board would do it.... They might even crack after a few days....

to be honest my xmas doesn't revolve round a xmas payment and what would there excuse be to pay some and not pay others that strike ? and its just an incentive for opgs not to go sick during Dec , same as the the car draw which didn't happen ? hmm , the managers union hasnt done jack s**t since they threw out r/ms pension offer , I wonder why they haven't balloted for I/a ? do you think they are waiting to see what the cwu get ? or nobody would miss them if they did strike ? or they have no balls ?

As I understand it, the abysmal turnout of 28 per cent does not qualify the ballot as meeting the minimum requirement to support industrial action in the eyes
of the law. A minimum turnout of 50 per cent is required with 40 per cent (of that 50 per cent) voting for industrial action.

The manager's ballot was a consultation one, not an Industrial Action one. Basically, it was whether to accept the offer or not. The actual turn out has no bearing on the matter, its a simple case of majority voting.

Although the low turn out will affect the negotiations there are no legal implications, it was still a narrow rejection.

TBT - thanks for the further info, but let's hope the voter apathy is not reflected in any future votes either by CWU or Unite. Irrespective of whether
the vote was consultation or not if people can't be bothered to vote when they can stick the flipping vote in the post where they
actually work what hope is there!!

Imagine how different the current national and international political landscape might look if people who wished they had voted had done so!
