Yes, but "firms that find themselves under shareholder pressure over executive pay" isn't because the shareholders want the excessive executive pay distributed to the workers it's because the shareholders want the excessive executive pay redistributed to themselves as higher dividends. :no no

That might well be the shareholders motive but I'd rather see it go to them, a good proportion of whom will just be ordinary working class people who have invested some spare cash, rather than go to the inept, incompetent parasites that make up our current CEO and Board.

So who would you suggest takes over from our board of ''incompetent parasites''
Yu may not like it but over the past few years they have got RMG back on track after years
of people taking the p==s not only board of directors agreeing not to pay anything into the pension fund
but also the workers whose idea of a days work was lets do 4 hours of our duty and claim another 8 in docket.
The company should have gone under years ago

No, a good proportion of shareholder will NOT be just be ordinary working class people who have invested some spare cash, they're the rich who have more money than they know what to do with and the pension funds.

I'll ignore bankimoons comments as they clearly haven't got a clue what they're talking about if they honestly think the current CEO and board are doing a good job.

LL, I didn't say the majority of shareholders would be ordinary working class but I still say a good proportion will be, also you mention the pension funds... well who do you think will eventually see the benefit of those pensions?

Wacko,
"Individual, or retail, investors own just 12% of shares" http://uk.businessinsider.com/ons-stati ... hip-2015-9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Of those individual investors it's likely that nine-tenths are wealthy and possibly a tenth are "ordinary working class" people.
So about 1% of shares are owned by ordinary working class people which can hardly be considered "a good proportion".

LL I'm not disagreeing with you that in an ideal work I'd like to see a non-privatised RM with the profits going towards improving the service and rewarding the workforce.

But we haven't got that, so in the context of the original point of this thread I'd rather see more money going to shareholders (where at least some of it will get to small investors, posties with free shares and pension funds) and less money going to a useless and incompetent CEO and board.

Are you saying you disagree with the title of this thread and you'd rather see more money going to Moya and her crew and less money going to shareholders?

Wacko,
I've not been arguing for "a non-privatised RM with the profits going towards improving the service and rewarding the workforce" because that's not likely to happen.
I was just correcting your notion that ordinary working class people own shares.
If I felt as strongly as you about "the inept, incompetent parasites that make up our current CEO and Board" and "money going to a useless and incompetent CEO and board" then I would have made my feelings known at the Annual General Meeting recently held near Slough.

LL, Just to satisfy my own curiosity can I ask you this ''lesser of two evils'' question... If there was a million pounds available today who would you rather see it go to:-

a.) The current CEO and Board
b.) The shareholders

(There are no alternative answers available in this scenario)

What about c.) Reinvested back into the business
Or d.) Paid to the workers who keep the company running?

Wacko,
That's an easy one to answer. :Very Happy
Split evenly between
c.) Reinvested back into the business :thumbup , and
d.) Paid to the workers who keep the company running. :thumbup
And I would not care one jot about the disappointment of the shareholders, most of whom reside in the "rest of the world", nearly half of them being in North America. :cuppa :cuppa
Digressing somewhat from Moya and a "walk of fame" I am most disappointed that there was an apparent need last year for Britain to regain it's independence from Europe while most of the tabloid reading public are oblivious to the fact that the real problem is that we're now little more than a colony of America, our businesses largely owned by them and following them unquestioned into illegal wars the inevitable consequence of which is regular terrorist attacks here. :thumbdown

Listened to this on the radio today. The only positive point I could see/hear was that FTSE 100 companies are becoming ever more aware of Public Opinion and that pressure from Shareholders (admittedly with their own agenda) could help to bring down some of the more excessive salaries paid to some CEOs. The point was made that there is rarely any link between the Companie's Performance and the salaries offered. Often a failing company will often be paying the most excessive salaries to it's board. All the FSTE 100 companies are striving to get their CEOs salaries into the top 25%.... I suppose it's that old chestnut, "We have to pay Top salaries to get the Best people"? :hmmmm

I think one positive thing about the internet is that it's much harder to get away with anything nowadays. Doesn't take long for most information to become available. These Obscene mismatches between Company Board and Employee Salaries have been going on for hundreds of years, with the Rich getting Richer and the Poor getting Poorer, hopefully nowadays it wont be able to be done on the quiet, away from prying eyes and publicity. :cuppa
