According to the management briefings taking place this pretty much means what we thought it would, you would guarantee completion no matter the traffic without recourse to overtime with the carrot being no lapsing and a return to job and finish, you score ( allegedly ) when it's quiet and they score when it's busy.

Thoughts?

You score daily when you've got one of the best rounds in the office and they score daily when you've got one of the worst rounds in the office.
So no change really. :cuppa

I wonder if he mentioned that you would be covering the rounds left when one off your group went on holiday or off sick ,with out recourse to over time when you went over , also there was no mention of the size of your group ie how many posties to cover each other , remember starburst !!!
also I wonder how often would it be when you had a full compliment in your group

It sounds and looks to me , exactly like lapsing, except on a bigger scale.its a win,win for Royal Mail and a lose, lose situation for the workforce. If you don't have time for lapsing now where is the time going to come from in the future? We constantly criticise those who start early, as working for free, is this what it has led to? Thanks for that.

Why do they want Data capture than. The new equipment for data capture has been fitted into 4 offices including 2 Delivery offices , an arDC and a Mail centre'.

The end result of Data capture is you will be paid only if you work all your paid for hours. That means no job and finish.

We have deliveries in my office that I, and virtually everybody else, can do 2 hours quicker (without rushing) than the big deliveries. Managers don't see a problem. Under this proposal, the s**t will really hit the fan in so many ways unless a proper and equitable workload revision is implemented. I won't be holding my breath.

As you know dingo the end result is that you work all your paid hours over the year with seasonal variation, not that you work all your paid hours every day, it's impossible to provide the continuity of work for that.

What they are proposing is job and finish version 2. No finishing early one day then claiming overtime the next, I would imagine the data capture will provide the "proof" either way.

One of the flaws in this plan is that you may have control over the outdoor element to a certain extent, you may know that your delivery should take around 4 hours and think job and finish might be a good idea but how much control will you have over the indoor element? What's to stop management stripping back the full-time staff even more and piling more and more indoor work on who's left?

Finishing time relies a great deal on starting time.

I'd leave if this came in.
Firstly it will be based on the "model week", i.e. the average of the 4 easiest weeks of the year.
You will be expected to do an 8 hour shift, perhaps finishing early on easy days - assuming that RM don't fix easy Tuesday in the future.
This 8 hour shift will be a minimum, holidays and sick leave will be on top of that.
If you go sick, then all your colleagues will be doing your job. Think about it, they aren't getting paid any more and it isn't optional. It will be your fault.
By the law of averages, someone will be off sick for 2 weeks that year and someone else will have a clean record - that is how random statistics works. Do you want to do 2 weeks more work than the bloke next to you?
You will have to pick your holdidays within your group. Two of you off at the same time just won't work.
If you finish an hour early in summer, you'll finish on time the rest of the year and very late in December!

In short, it takes all the flexibility out of a large office and shafts you with it.

what a load of s**t , leave it to the runners and early starters to mop the extra work up and work the hours they are paid simple , if I want to work for free I will do it for a charity and not a company that makes millions and give it back to the shareholders . start time and finish time :wave , we aren't on salary ,

How would this work when they only employ a part time workforce?

I think Royal Mail still want to have their cake and eat it

Im sure RM have said that they want 'reduced lapsing' not an END to lapsing itself. And yes, there are still one or two cushy duties and one or two ball-breaking rounds in our office. Imagine doing a firm's duty on a Saturday and half of them are closed!

You mentioned the massive negative in that we have no control over Indoor time. The Indoor Work Plans have already been cut to the bone by management with no walk-sorters and when packet shrouds and mail arrives in the office late, well, they are still going to want everything sorted and delivered today aren't they? That is when it becomes lose-lose for us.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

This is the one thing that will tip the workforce over the edge, it's franchising pure and simple. This will never work there's too many flaws in the plan.

Even though we had duty tweaks this summer to try and combat inequality between duties, by and large it has simply changed which duties are now the bad ones, while some unchanged duties are as easy/hard as they ever were.

Indoor 318 work away from prepping assigned duty still has to be fudged to help harder duties.

OPGs are finishing before their contract hours in the summer mainly because their are not using their breaks, not using HCTs/LWTs correctly, not standing still to get mail for the next address from the working bundle etc.

The early finishes in the summer are not going to balance out the heavy workload from September to March, nevermind the Xmas chaos where we have duties that can go over by 3+ hours if completed!

What about reserves who get moved about?

What about duty holders that work their days off and insist on the day off cover being kicked off their scheduled duty, to a duty they barely know the frame?

Absolutely no way, the union should be fighting this one hard! The whole situation is a beast of RM's own creation, largely impossible workloads if doing the job correctly, because manager bonuses are tied up in making further savings that rarely exist.

I think it's fair to say the root cause of impossible workloads at my depot can be laid at the door of a specific ex-DOM, which consequent DOMs have been unable to fix because of pressure from above and the threat of reduced bonus pay.
