Key holder opening and closing the office
Hi, I am wondering if I should get any allowances, I start work at 04.40, everyday. I work in the callers office, I open up the office everyday and I also lock up everyday.
I'm on my own until the manager comes in at 7ish, other staff come into the office early however this is before they are supposed too!
Am I entitled to shift allowance? Start time 04.40am
Am I due any allowances for opening and closing the office?
Am I due any allowances due to staff being on the premises even though they are in before their start time?
At the moment I get nothing for any of the above, I have been doing it all since 2009.
Thanks in advance for any info

As long as its been risk assessed and any solutions to risks put in place its fine.
To the OP.
We used to get a dawn Early Shift allowance before the moved the start times, I would contact both HR and the Union to see if there is still such an allowance.
There is no allowance for opening up, but I believe you can claim overtime for those occasions you have to attend outside your hours. Police, fire etc,
No allowance to you for early starters, just an allowance from you for their lack of foresight.

There's no allowance for being alone in the caller's office
, no allowance for being out in hazardous weather conditions, no allowance for driving along hazardous roads, no allowance for anything nowadays.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with a Leadership Allowance.
Moya must claim her fair share of that, but maybe some of it trickles down to the more capable DOMs !

13. Leadership Allowance
This allowance replaces the existing supervisory postalallowance (sometimes also called PHG “A”
or postal chargeship allowance), but with the criteria for theallowance remaining unchanged
(except that in future payment will be during conditioned hours only). Note that the “A” in PHG “A”
relates to the additional supervisory “Allowance” and not to “A-level” tasks. The allowance reflects
additional supervisory responsibilities and not simply carrying out administrative tasks of the sort
that have always been appropriate to PHG/LA2 grades.
Paid where there are no senior officers present and the following criteria are met (during conditioned
hours only):
(a) supervision is for at least one and three quarter hours a day (separate periods of 30 minutes may be
aggregated)
(b) between 0600 and 2200 there are at least six employees (including the allowance holder) on duty in an office,
section or railway station, and effective supervision cannot be given by a substantive supervisor
(c) primary responsibility is taken for a section of work or employees during the preparation for first delivery and
the sole Manager on duty is in charge of at least 30 employees and is unable to be reasonably expected to exercise
adequate supervision;
(d) in charge of a sorting office or railway station at night with at least four employees (including the
allowance holder) are on duty, or three in the case of a TPO;
(e) exceptionally for a single period of one and a half hours supervision on station duties;
(f) if an inspection has established the need for supervision in addition to that which can be normally provided and
there is a minimum requirement of two hours supervision;
Allowance holders should only be expected to undertake manipulative work during their supervision periods as
long as this is consistent with their being able to exercise effectively the required degree of employee control.

Aren't senior staff in the cage supposed to have no more than ten OPGs in the depot without a lino/DOM present, under normal circumstances, or have I got my wires crossed?

A shift payment between the hours of 04.01 and 05.00 attracts a payment off £16.71 per week. Also as the overtime is pre planned the payment should be at scheduled attendance rate.

Thanks for your replies, I have spoken to my DO manager which he checked if I am entitled to any allowances, but it's a no!
The leadership allowance, states you need to actually be in charge of people to get it, and as the posties that are in before there start time, shouldn't actually be there, they can not be included.
Apparently the opening and closing of the office on my own is part of my job
