My contracted hours vs 6 hour deliveries.

Firstly how likely is a revision to include 6 hour deliveries going to take place in the near future? There has been a lot of talk recently about this and I know it's what RM want to do.

So what happens to the part time 5 day guys? Im on a 28hr contract and I have my own duty, starting at 9am and finishing at 2.30pm. Now I know my maths isn't great but there could only be two options given to us. Either they have us working over 4 days with an extra day off or they increase our contract to around the 35hr mark. Im presuming a 6hr delivery means 6 hrs walking? Even if most of the work is done for us by the time we start there is still a break to take, loading into the van and getting to our destination which would mean this would be an absolute minimum of a 6.45hrs working day, lots of cut offs in busy periods (ie winter) so ideally a 7hr minimum working day.

So what would be the plan for this to work for part timers that work 5 days a week?

Its the CWU that desire a 35 hour working week - and that includes your breaks/meal relief as well. If you are on 28 hours then your contracted hours would likely increase to 35.

How that would be calculated over the course of the day I have no idea, but it would arrive at the office later because all this work still needs to be processed into some sort of order. You would be right in assuming that the Royal Mail want us all to be doing 6 hours of outdoor work. There would be no manual sorting or putting mail into frames as the mail and packets would be all there ready and waiting for you at the depot to collect.
