So the salient issue is the pension, regarding the next two weeks? And by the sounds of it, RM are more accepting of the 'D235'?

If they have already been talking a year surely they should start earlier. 15th August will come and go and sure they will have another chat and a few biscuits..

can't see it being sewn up in a fortnight if its took a year to get to the stage where nothing has yet been agreed.

Don't think they are looking at it being sewn up in 2 weeks but want a sincere and open acceptance from the employer of what the union are saying and arguing against. He's saying that the union want to see that the company want serious negotiations and are willing to give as well as take. Looks like August 15th is going to a very important date for our future and no doubt that we will see ballot papers sent out to try and force the company back to the table. I must say that the union have come in for a lot of flack in recent times but I was impressed by TP's speech and the way he delivered it. The union are saying that they know we have to change and move quicker to do so but they won't allow it to be at our expense. Let's hope that they hold their nerve with steely determination and the company begin to understand how important the staff are and how important RM is to the public.

GRS - I agree, I think Terry is doing a good job and is making all the right moves prior to the PEC meeting. RM now need to decide before then, if they want to avoid the IA that they claim to fear so much and resolve this dispute by taking on board the very real concerns raised by the CWU and enter meaningful talks.

The talks are initially trying to find a joint accord too allow constructive negotiations on all the key issues i.e. pensions , Pay , Existing National Agreements , the change to the pipeline plus resolving some of the issues in the workplace including where part timers have been working above their hours on workload which will be needed going forwarded i.e. Not against sick leave , holidays or maternity or vacancies.

They met most of this week to agree this statement as Royal Mail want things which we do not . Hence needing a Joint accord for negotiations. Next week there will be further negotiations.

Pensions remain a massive issue as the outcome will either save Royal Mail millions or cost them them millions.

In terms of the Point about the CWU not trying to get part timers made up , this is simply not true. It is part of the talks but just because a part timer works above their hours does not automatically mean they should get an increase in their contract hours. It will depend on what the part timer is actually doing when they increase their hours , if they are covering someone who is sick or on annual leave or maternity leave , these are ad hoc hourage and all of these will resume so if a part timer is getting extra hours against the above they will not likely get an increase in hours. Equally if they are covering vacancies which are going to be filled.

However a part timer should be given an increase in contract hours if there are a reserve or rest day cover and cover full time duties or if their duty is to double prep or if they on their own duty go beyond their time on a regular basis or if due to Royal Mail's policy of only recruiting 25 hour contacts mean they are asked to come in early to perform IPS of prep.

The CWU got over 600 part timers an increase in contracts last year including many made up to full time. However Royal Mail do not want to make up many to full time due to automation and their strategy to reduce indoor workload.

The 15th August is a date where the CWU will either report that talks are progressing well and will not set any timetable for a ballot or on the 15th the CWU will agree a timetable.

At the moment it is 50/50. More talks next week , last week some progress was made but still major differences to overcome.
