Suffering with plantar fasciitis, she had a few days off, then contacted a doctor via telephone. Doctor diagnosed over phone ( didn't deem it nescessary to arrange an appointment ) has prescribed anti inflammatories, and provided a sick note for two weeks ( which someone has collected from the surgery on her behalf).
My understanding of the situation was that it's all legit, and procedures have been followed, apparently not...
DOM called colleague, asking for update, colleague informed about sick note. DOM not happy, stated that as she hasn't been physically examined by a doctor, and also hasn't spoken to the doctor about the possibillity of doing light/indoor duties, is questioning the authenticity of the issue.
Colleague is quite stressed and worried about the situation as it "was not a pleasant call".
I've checked the attendance agreement, and can see nothing about a doctors sick note being any less genuine provided over the phone, as opposed to in person, and more importantly, cannot see any information whatsoever on the employee mentioning to the doctor if they feel they can do light/indoor duties, which DOM is adamant in saying is the employee's responsibility, even though colleague has been asked by doctor if they could work, and responded "no".
Think the DOM is trying to pressure her back to work. She has been advised to contact union rep ( even though DOM knows he is on holiday ) and to get back to doctors for physical examination, which she is happy to do, but finds it extremely difficult and painful to walk, so doesn't want to do it if its not required
