Uniform steering group put our new women’s shirts to the test

Two new women’s shirts will be trialled by 500 colleagues across the country, to help us create a uniform to suit all shapes and sizes.
The tops were selected by our uniform steering group, which includes female drivers and postwomen, alongside designers from Dimensions, our uniform supplier.
The group chose the shirts from nine prototypes. Their decision was based on feedback gathered from this year’s Employee Survey, the Big Conversation and women’s networking events earlier this year.
The favourites were a long-sleeved shirt and a short-sleeved ‘sholo’ – a blend of a polo and a shirt which looks smart, while allowing flexibility of movement. Both tops are semi-fitted with two pockets.
Carol Bolland, national asset supply chain manager, said: ‘Women are a key part of our workforce, so we need to adapt our uniform to reflect that.
‘We’ve considered everything, including fit, fabric, neckline, pockets, length of sleeves and type of buttons. It needs to suit a range of people and the jobs they do, while still fitting in with our brand identity.’
The two styles of top will be sent to a selection of mail centres, distribution centres and delivery offices to be sampled by female colleagues in a range of different roles.
