CWU reacts to 'Easyjob' for Royal Mail boss

The CWU today expressed their shock and condemnation at the announcement that Royal Mail Group CEO Moya Greene is to take up a non-executive role with EasyJet from today.

Commenting on the announcement Deputy General Secretary Postal Terry Pullinger said: “We have today been inundated with enquiries from both the media and our members in regard to the announcement that Moya Greene CEO of the Royal Mail Group has commenced an additional role as a non-executive director with EasyJet.

“It is extremely concerning at a time when the business is facing huge challenges that the CEO of the company should have enough time on her hands to take another job.

“It will be equally offensive to our members that a highly paid member of the Royal Mail Board and leader of Royal Mail Group is taking what one assumes is another lucrative contract whilst effectively saying to Royal Mail employees that they are overpaid, lucky to have a job and should accept imposed huge reductions in their pension promise.

“This feels symptomatic of the small number of industry leaders in the UK that share non-executive positions on a number of boards and are highly rewarded for shrinking rather than growing their businesses and achieving profits and bonuses as a direct result of pursuing a race to the bottom for decent working people.”

sounds to me that shes keeping her options open , so if theres a strike and the company goes tits up she can just toddle off to easy jet as she will be the first to go ifs it down to the fat cat share holders , best of luck easy jet because youll need it .

Couldn't make this crap up could you...I have just about enough energy to cook food for myself in the evenings let alone do another job...shocking Moya for shame and everything you are trying to do to use....about time you put a mail bag over your shoulder and worked like the rest of us hard working royal mail staff all year round...Hold your heads up proudly posties...Moya has has shown us her try colors

I cannot for the life of me see how this is acceptable to the RM board. If the CEO has the time to do both jobs then she clearly has not got enough work to do for RM? On top of that charge them £1.8M for the privilege, this is pure greed and says everything about those that shaft others. Grrrrrr

I thought she already had 2 other directorships, Tim Hortons and Great West Life - both in Canada. I think she has one foot on the boat towards leaving UK !

If/when the strikes come she will be on all the news programmes giving it the innocent look and talk and the dopey media will fall for it playing up to her as the heroine who took the postal workers down a peg.I just hope the head boys at the CWU are ready for it and absolutely destroy her. She is a totally abhorrent human being.

If Moya has enough time she should be doing some lapsing of a duty like the rest of us are expected to, not taking on another role.

Maybe she's getting a foot in the door at EasyJet as she has ambitions to ultimately be CEO at that company?
It would be good for us if she makes a compromise with the CWU on Pensions that avoids a strike, solely to boost her CV for the EasyJet position. She'll look like a savvy operator to her potential new employers, whilst saddling the remaining board members at Royal Mail with a deal that she doesn't have to stick around to manage ??

Chatting to an Ex-Royal Mail Director about this situation, he said it's probably Moya getting ready to jump ship. It's apparently the Done Thing to test the water at a prospective employer in this way.
