Hi there never posted before just read forums, right my question is this. Can a full time OPG be pushed off a duty he or she as signed for after a revision for a more senior officer.
So the person as been doing the duty for months after a revision and now the management along with the union rep want too push that said persons off the dutys for a more senior person.

As far as I am concerned unless someone states different that person has SIGNED for that duty and was accepted at the time of application. AMEN

I agree with that statement totally and that is my understanding. I heard that a postman somewhere took the union to court because he was forced off his duty for a more sinior man. This is not applying for a vacant duty this is using seniority to replace him.

Royal mail/CWU seniority system is a mess. Royal mail are supposed to keep the seniority list and the Cwu can ask to see it for revisions etc. Thing is Royal mail do not really care about seniority and do not update the list very often when people leave, or remove days of service for special leave C or career breaks when people have not been paid or worked. Royal mail just go by the day you joined and so someone who has say over a year of special leave accumulated when they worked on their second job outside of Royal Mail, or worked abroad out of sight, still keeps their seniority. It shouldn't be a difficulty to write some formula to update seniority for absence but they cannot be bothered. Royal mail will send you your service certificate on time but seniority can be a lottery.

If the rep and unit allow an OPG to be bumped by seniority then that certainly means a brand new revision. After all, if you can be bumped off your signed duty, then so the person below you in the seniority list.

However, there are certain exceptions to this rule. If Royal Mail is making a "reasonable adjustment" because of condition under the Equality Act then yes OPGs can be bumped to make way for it. You can know that's the reason you are being bumped, but because of the strict rules of Data and Medical Information protection you cannot be told of the specific reason, just that it's a "reasonable adjustment", but not the condition causing it.

So, like many of the other processes and procedures used by Royal Mail, I would imagine it will be open to manipulation and abuse.

It's not Royal Mail it's the union reps doing the dumping..planted needed a revision but cos of cost they did I realinement a few months back on all shift.
Everyone got a duty, but due to loss of machinery being mothballed union now say too many on mech area so least senior have to be dumped off.. but not put on the extra sheet push back machine relief dutys..this is got to be against all the rules and maybe employment law.. it's out right discrimination using seniority as a tool.
