Later starts

The idea of later start times in starting to sound a lot more appealing.

Currently on long/shorts starting at 6:30 and finishing 14:00/15:00

Finding myself with the huge increase of workload over the past 5 years feeling fatigued due to lack of sleep and physical exertion.

The only issue I would have is picking the kiddy up after school at 15:40 but the idea of giving up a couple hours of my afternoon to get a full night's sleep and not worry about getting to bed by 10 would be nice

One of the great things about royal mail, was the early start and early finish. Unfortunately that was taken from us. I never worked after midday until single daily delivery. The customer liked their post early and we liked going home early it was win-win.

it could be a h&s issue in the winter dark months , but if that's what they want then fine but I will not work a min over my time again , simple .

im exactly the same. dont mind doing overtime but not a chance i would if finish time was 5

I cannot believe that any customer/business would want their mail after 12, let only 5 in the evening. It really does beggars belief.

If the suited up big wigs on triple the money we are actually knew what the job was about they would know customers prefer deliverys early !! Imagine working in the dark and the amount of customers u would miss during the school runs, more problems than solutions

Totally agree!! I can remember a few years ago a big area manager came in and stated that the customer wants to have their mail early. How can this suddenly change? Does this business really care about their customers? Or their hard working posties? I THINK NOT!!!!!!

I can see where you are coming from and can sympathise having young kids myself. Unfortunately the problem with posties at Royal Mail is that every time any kind of change is proposed it is met with resistance and cynicism. How can anyone say it would be a bad thing to have later starts if we don't at least give it a try? Too many posties are stuck in the past and still have the job and finish mentality. If we move to being a 8am-4pm operation or even 9am-5pm operation then so what if it means we are better placed as a business to capture the next day delivery market?

Change is never easy but let us open our minds to the possibility that just maybe we can do things a better way.

Correct. In the very early dark morning you owned the street along with perhaps the milkman! In the dark in the winter late afternoon, the low life and his wife is out there!

The way it's going we may not have a choice!

RM's strategy is give the workforce even more unmanageable workload & will expect it done within the allocated time!

If you go over your time then that's your problem, as no extended O/T will paid! Just like current working models of Amazon, Hemes, Yodel..et el..
