Summer overtime cull

Is this going on everywhere these days?

Asked every week for the past 6 weeks and nothing doing at all, even though we are easily paying out 40hrs a week to bring P/T staff in early so we can lapse duties. Does anyone go in for 2 hours prep? As I feel it may be the only way of getting some extra money together.

Two weeks ago they cut the overtime. They cut all the part timers morning overtime. Half our office is part time. People were working to their time. Mail piling up. It lasted three days.

Full time staff are no longer allowed to book for going over in our office.

The mail count is usually lower during the summer and so there is more scope to lapse duties and save hours. This is probably why a lot of offices have been able to reduce their overtime.

But then a few staff go on sick, so RM lapse these duties knowing full well that staff are not going to deliver it - especially if they have already lapsed another duty for the day beforehand!! So this now means the managers have to deliver the duties where the staff have gone on sick AND parts of the duty that they had preliminarily lapsed beforehand as well

Oh believe me, it causes managers all kinds of headaches, and they become desperate for staff to do any overtime

No wonder RM want a different sick policy........It actually stops them from lapsing deliveries!!

Overtime has been stopped at my office, unless you are one of the managers Favourites. There is a few people who always get overtime.

Sorry, but why is this happening? Lapsing is to fill hours - if staff are being brought in early in order to make lapsing achievable, then by definition lapsing is not achievable, regardless of what the resource to workload says.

I agree, it's crazy. The reasoning behind it seems to be that it is easier to pay out 8 hours a day overtime indoor so that part time staff can come in and help prep duties thus ensuring everyone has the capacity to lapse a section of two duties. They see it as an easier way than trying to get 4 staff on say 2hrs (ish) overtime each to deliver these duties.

They have stopped all part timers coming in early at ours. Full timers triple or quadruple prep with 3/4 on ips 2 on quieter days. This means we are not getting out early so no outdoor lapsing gets taken at all.

There is definitely less overtime for early doors, but seems to be more walk overtime at the moment. There is definitely a massive difference in overtime from 12 months ago compared to now. 12 months ago they would crying for people to do overtime, now they just lapse the walks instead... and if someone can't go their lapsing, someone gets to mop up on overtime.
