put d2ds for next day before going out ?
ignore issues in the office ?
non use of lwts ?

But what if the answer is yes?

I expect my rep to understand the agreements in place and ensure they are properly implemented in the DO fairly.
I expect the rep to be available to the members whenever they need him/her.

If the rep is doing that in your office then I'm sorry pal but I think you're doomed

The reply to this should be if your rep is doing all the above in your office you contact your area rep and register a 'vote of no confidence'

This will then result in all office members having a vote as to if he/she continues to be your CWU representitive

Just a few

- Don't say people have an easy life when our rep is on single duties everyday and the same easy ones of which he does not need to prep
- Never double preps
- Meaning never double preps d2d
- Ghost overtime
- Complain people do not do the job properly when ours doesn't
- LWT? Suppose ours does but uses the boxes the sequence comes in to carry coffees from the coffee machines for him and his mates every 5 mins
- Does the managers job
- Bugging people to do overtime because managers can't cover x amount of walks
- Tells us to finish on time but as our rep is on single easy duties everyday goes home in his van and comes back on time
- Be around when needed and not in a rush to go or says has no time

I expect my rep to meet with the screws and sort out a load of workplace issues that keep cropping up on a weekly basis. Issues like:

- The old "operational needs" bulls*it that managers use to pull staff off their own deliveries because of sickness/absence just doesn't wash if they intend lapsing the delivery instead
- Vans getting taken in for a service and nobody bothering to tell anyone about it. I need a loop off just so that I can find 12 or 13 empty pouches in the office and a few trolleys that have gone missing out of the van.
- Increasing additions to the work-plans, what's happened to the porter??
- Additional calls not being added on the work-stations. How frustrating is it that new housing developments have been built over a year ago and the frame hasn't even been modified/adjusted to accommodate them?? I've seen a good few posties laying post out in some sort of random order on the table, and going through it again and again when there are odd letters form IPS or mech to put in. So time-consuming.
- Union Meeting? What Union meeting!

speaking from personal experience

everything on their terms but won't listen to a rep's side of it.
the ability to be stabbed in the back but still represent the person who stabbed them when needed.
to turn a blind eye when being spoken about, ie: he is a sh1t rep, he is always out for himself etc etc.
a person to annoy them by asking them to do the job properly and not come in early ( which they will ignore anyway )
someone who will get PT made up to full time and then watch as they become runners and early starters and say nothing.

as you can see it's a sh1t position to be in and the above are the main reason's I stood down recently.

Back now to looking after myself, I will still offer out advice to those I like and ask for it.

Familiar themes there, but as a current rep I do find the group of former reps not always a help. Advice given to members is often incorrect and few seem to direct enquiries to me. C'est la vie

Yes - Strikes are bigger and more important than the standing of a rep in an office.

He could do all of the above and even more and I would still stand on the picket line, and I would do it even if they decided to cross the picket line.

Reps are not given god-like powers when they take on the job. They are as flawed as the rest of us and because of that most will be average, some will be outstanding, and few will be terrible and self-serving.

In fact, I have no doubt reps see us in exactly the same way.

If you see the rep is failing and can't accept it then either help them out or replace them, it is as simple as that. Its just that someone has to put their face above the parapet, and unfortunately not many are brave enough.

Ours is a nice enough guy, he does it though because nobody else wants to, he drew the short straw if you like and as a result he doesn't really know the ins and outs of things. I know more from coming on here than he's ever told us.

Then we'd likely have no reps - how democratic is that ?
