Curious to see if these 'overtime bans' are happening nation wide? Could it possibly be managers pulling a fast one in order to meet targets for their bonus!?? I deliver in N.I btw

No overtime in our unit today. People being told to stream their mail out before they go out if they can't complete so that the public won't notice that mail is being delayed as they will still be getting something through the door. Resulted in some frames having plenty of mail left in for tomorrow already including the one I'm on as it was a lapsed duty today and needless to say loads didn't go out from it so I will be going in to about two thirds of a frame. The real sickner is that there were people willing to do overtime but they have been sent to an office about 15 miles away to do ....... overtime. Questioned DOM as to how that office can pay overtime and he said that it's due to sickness so they can pay it. Joke 4 hours or 6 hours overtime is the same money to pay out no matter what it's for. DOM seems to think that it's down to the fact that RM would rather pay a fine from the regulator for USO failings than pay out overtime as it works out cheaper over the year. Also heard that RM are making a public announcement on Friday (possibly regarding management) - don't know if anyone else has heard anything.

Get your rep to have the managers put this in writing, its the definition of willful delay.

I deliver in N.I as well and we have been told there's a maximum of half an hours overtime to be claimed each day. If you think you will be over, cut off prepping mail into your frame, bundle up, and deliver what you prepped. (Manager says not putting it into your frame means the mail is not failing?!?). As long as tracked items, specials and parcels are delivered, it'll all be fine!! He says theres a new boss in N.I. and its coming from the top. I suppose it's a way of saving money and seems to be the way things are going. Not a very good service for the public though.
We are just doing as we are told and let the mail pile up. I know we're not as busy in the summer but you cannot possibly complete a duty if a bulk mailing comes in.

It's only wilful delay if you leave mail in your frame (accidently). If you inform your inspector otherwise then you're covered.... unless you finish before your shift, then you're on to plums!

They've been banking our hours for the last year. Finish an hour early on a Tuesday, don't get paid if you're an hour late on Wednesday.

get your rep to put in a disagreement.

Also guys is it worth asking management for this overtime in writing? When they don't I'm considering going over slightly and kicking up a fuss when not paid

With regards to "overtime", is this the hours of the duty, or you're contracted hours regardless of the start/finish time of the duty. I would argue that anything over & above your daily contracted hours is "overtime". But some think differently....

We are talking about an excess overtime ban. Not a contract to duty time as that's already budgeted for.
