Delivering in High Rise Flats

Few lads in my office are a bit put off by delivering in high rise flats since the disaster in Grenfell tower London. Most of these high rise flats have cladding so if a fire breaks out is it RM responsible unless the housing owners can confirm its 100% safe? Surely the union must have a input on this before we carry on delivering. Luckily there are non on my walk but I would be a bit wary if there was..

It's a far lower risk delivering there than living there.

Better be careful though....people get run over in the street, they die on bikes and vans, and even bits of buildings could fall on them...
Never mind, pull the duvet up over your head and try and block out that nasty old world...

Could the CWU play its part in applying leverage to try to ensure that high rise blocks are safe places to inhabit and work ? Yes - I think it could, and should.

The council officers who sanctioned this as a habital area should be prosecuted. Full Stop. Had this been a a council building full of workers would it have been allowed to operate? Of course not. Why should ordinary tenants be any different? Criminal negligence.

Would that be the same CWU that can't get RM to stick to it's own deals, or the CWU that can't even get a majority of staff to engage in important decision-making processes, but can apply leverage to planning committees and councils to alter building specs and construction?

I did my good deed for the day this morning in a high rise flat and moved a rubbish bag that was propping open a fire door to a communal stairwell. Probably pissed off whoever had put it there.

To be fair anything could happen when your in delivery.

You could go into a house or some low rise flats and have a fire. This was a horrendous incident but small high rise flat fires happen too.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is home to not only Grenfell Tower but also "many of the most expensive residential places in the world".
How ironic it is that the council's motto is Quam bonum in Unum habitare which roughly translates from Latin as 'How good it is to dwell in unity'.

Simple solution, go to your health and safety rep and say your unhappy with the building and you want a health and safety inspection done before you deliver any more mail, RM constantly telling us our safety is their main priority!!!!
