Van Share gone - Trolleys on the way back.

It seems that if you are with a partner now that is slow or you cannot get on with him/her and deliberately cause a scene in the office by slowing down not doing lapsing the managers give in and one gets a van on his own and the non driver gets a trolley not taking packets or reggies, this is what's happening in my office now, when the park & Loop went in three years ago there was two trolley walks for the old timers now that number has risen to five, then managers are putting their packets on overtime. its time the DSM's clamped down on this especially when they are finishing a hour and a half before their time.
Is this happening in any other offices? If both park & Loop partners cannot get on and none will leave the walk then managers should take them both off the walk put them floating simple, their problem. Plenty reserves waiting in the wings. Hot on delivery today Phew!

I saw it happen many a time, but no trolley necessary, there were usually spare vans so on occasion when I or others were paired with someone hopeless we simply asked the DIM for a spare van and worked on our own. I know the non-driver complicates things but there were only about 4 in the whole office that I recall and they were all quick so never really had the exact issue you mention. But it is normal it appears in many offices.

I Agree with Lounge Lizard, if you don't have a licence they will get rid of you they don't want passengers if you can't drive id advice you to start learning now.

Thanks for the advice Kings. Perhaps you could tell me how RM would go about getting 'rid' of people who can't drive? There is nothing in my contract when i joined the company saying i needed a drivers licence. Offer me a decent EVR and i would go though.

It saddens me that you would seem to be happy in getting rid of fellow colleagues who's only 'sin' is they can't drive. Are we not all in this together anymore? Do you feel the same way if a fellow worker had a disability? Would you advice Royal Mail to get rid of them because they couldn't do a certain job?

I'm with a non driver I'm forever carrying him going back helping him even though I have reggies and large packets to do, all I can think of he is taking the mick yapping all day to customers. when he is on leave I normally get another driver with me he jumps in the van goes delivering big packets etc using his loaf. Non drivers are a burden in my eyes they do the same thing day in day out not a care in the world. They won't help the driver its a case of I'm alright jack...They want fetching and carrying everyday.

So you have a bad experience with one non driver (your partner) and yet you tar all other non-drivers in Royal Mail as burdens! Sorry that you seem to have a lazy partner but it's not fair to blame all non-drivers in Royal Mail. I'm sure there are plenty of lazy drivers out there also.

If you want to blame somebody, blame Royal Mail. They came up with Park and Loop.

Some people are unable to drive for medical reasons. Sad to see you agree with discrimination. Would you say the same if RM wanted to get rid of all black workers ??

Well let's say as a driver I'm being discriminated against no I'm not I'm getting shat on from a great height no extra money for being a trained mechanic re van checks if anything goes wrong! Team leader dragging round non drivers who leave me to organise everything,pick them up drop them here there and everywhere.

They then stroll round without a care in the world while I deliver the same size loops and all the packets in between.

A friend refused to drive after a run away accident where he had reported a faulty handbrake and got 2 year dismissal thing on his record and after talking to him recently he said he won't ever drive for Royal Mail again his stress levels have gone down massively and in his word why would I when I get paid the same?

Nothing to do with discrimination or colour, you go on the RM website looking for a job fill the application form in you get as far as do you have a licence when you tick the no box that's the end of the road.
