No delivery of election material on Thursday

Post by POSTMAN »

As per this previous post, Royal Mail are concerned that there could be heavy deliveries in the final run-up to the election
It is this lack of advance planning time and the dynamics of this particular election which is bound to create pressure points during the countdown to election day. We are concerned that there could be heavy deliveries in the final run-up to the election.

Please plan for peak days over these next few weeks. Anticipate high volumes of candidates’ mail. It is vital to ensure we do our best to manage candidates’ mail and deliver it on time and to the required specification.
Which brings us nicely to this...

https://www.myroyalmail.com/news/2017/06/one-last-push" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

With just three days to go until the country goes to the polls, we need one last push to do the best job we can in delivering election mail, for our customers and our reputation.

Please ensure every piece of mail is delivered by Wednesday 7 June. Election materials should not be delivered on polling day, Thursday 8 June.

Please know the target date for delivery of candidates’ mail consignment and ensure the campaign mailings are delivered by that date. Deliver what candidates’ mail you can as soon as it comes in. There will always be more the next day, so it’s good practice to clear as much as possible, as soon as possible.

Make sure your delivery performance is updated daily for each consignment on Candidates Mail Tracker (CMT).

Best endeavours

Some candidates’ mailing may have been accepted on a best endeavours basis.

Please make every effort to deliver these mailings and give priority to items that are still within their target date.

Remember – it’s really important that we don’t nest any election material. Please ensure leaflets are placed one on top of the other for delivery.

Thank you for doing a great job throughout this election period – we’re almost there!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Best endeavours eh? I'm in today, off tomorrow and in on Wednesday. So 2 days to deliver a fresh influx of party sh*t. The floater won't touch it so I believe I should deliver a whole week's worth of sh*t in 2 days? Don't think so. If they want their bullshit delivered per week they shouldn't put it out when they know there are just enough days to do it. I won't be working over on Wednesday, if they want their bullsh*t cleared they can pay out for on OT it, cos I aint doing it!

It does seem a bit of a waste really, you deliver all this stuff ,I suspect that the majority of it,like D2D's ,go straight in the bin. Then there are people who have submitted a postal vote, who cannot be influenced any further and then there are the diehards who will always vote for their chosen party, even if it was a donkey with their party rosette on.

and throwing it in remain a problem when you only got 40 minutes to throw in for a part timer and you don't have time to throw in all the post plus 700 leaflets or whatever. I think it should be merged into mail via sorting machines but these leaflets can't be sorted as it will jam these machines.

Even if they wouldn't jame the machine, the machines would still reject them as it needs a address to sort/sequence to

Here is what should happen:

An election is announced. The DOM calls the staff together with a copy of the national agreement on the delivery of election material.
The price per leaflet, the time scales, the fact you can't claim overtime for the delivery of election material, no nesting etc - all the main points clearly explained.
He asks if there is anyone who wants to opt out of the delivery of the election material given that some overtime will necessarily be incurred in the prep and delivery of the material.
Those people who want to opt out are then made reserves for the duration so those who are happy to do the work to earn the money can get on with it and RM can fulfill its legal obligation to ensure all the election material is properly delivered to spec.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Would the majority?
My election payments are about £200 for about 5 hours extra work. That is £40/hour for prepping some leaflets and delivering them to houses I am going to anyway.
I believe that is what is known as easy money.
I am rather hoping for a hung parliament just so we can do it all again.

I'm sure RM will happily point to the posts on here when they tell us they have had another big conversation with their people and the majority want to do the election material within their contracted hours - that is - for no extra payment.
It must be the Brexit effect. Let's make stupid decisions that will leave us less well off? :hmmmm

So what about the piles of addressed stuff that came today that needed to be re-directed then? Throw it in the bin tomorrow at the receiving office?
You know, it's "almost" as though the people who write these things don't know sweet FA about the job.

Assuming we don't end up with a hung parliament, by the next General Election, it might all be part of the normal workload with no payments and no opt-outs
