Walk taken out next day as punishment?

Hi, some of my colleagues couldn't finish on time so some pouches were brought back and put in front of the managers office to deal with.

This is then not covered on the day they were suppose to go out. Management then tell the postmen who could not complete their duty to go out first thing the next morning.

So this means we have less people doing ips, etc as they are out delivering.

I feel that the management is using this as a form of punishment and making people take note of what happens if we do not complete a walk. Like a lose lose situation as you cannot legitimately finish on time but will have to go out next day delivering to the same roads twice in the same day.

Can the management do this? And yes our rep knows this happens but says they can do it.

I think I know myself this isn't on. Course some of you know I had a case of wilful delay, but the case got dropped due to no evidence, surprise surprise. I'm just fed up of the management breaking rules etc and getting away with it with bullying and threats.

They probably can make a walk go out early but if I was sent out early I'd make sure I'd do a van check , fuel up and take an official toilet stop

Happened to me last Christmas when we couldn't complete our shared van and left some in. before any of the current mail was thrown in, I was told to bundle up the previous days mail which had been undelivered and left in the frame. I was sent out to deliver it at 7.30 am, returned at 9.30am, had a break and then went out for 5 hours to deliver that days mail which my partner had prepped.

7 hours of delivery in one day isn't funny, I've seen the future.

Take a trolley, walk up and down every path, neighbours for no reply then later with "today's" Mail work to time and bring back the 2 pouches you don't have time to deliver repeat every day!

Just seems wrong they can carry mail forward and expect us to deliver it saving them the hassle of actually doing some work of getting it covered and saving money. So its alright for managers to not get a conduct for doing this, breaking the uso etc. But if we want to finish to our time or legitimately can't complete its ok for us to get a conduct or whatever bs they want to use for the day.

So if you go out first thing the next morning, rather than doing IPS, that means that you spend nearly all of your working day outdoors, and shouldn't there be a proper balance between indoor and outdoor work ?

Ask the DOM to ask someone else to do it. That's what I did and, with a bit of convincing, he saw it my way.

It is not a "reasonable request" if they keep insisting you and you alone do it.

Even though its been wilfully delayed by management not doing their job. But its ok, just sack us and nothing will happen to them useless waste of spaces.

I have given the rep a copy of that ltb but he just goes well its a reasonable request so on so forth, just work your time etc.

But this will turn out to be an endless cycle, you leave loops, take them out the morning the next day, come back do your current days work, bring more back repeat. How knackered will you be at the end of the week doing all that walking?

It has not happened to me, nearly did at xmas but surprisingly a newbie manager said to the main manager to let me just take it out with the currents day mail because it makes no sense to get me going out twice to the same roads.

I always thought there would be "H&S issues" but have never seen any document limiting the hours of a day spent on delivery and other 'outdoor' work.
Yes a part timer can expect to spend all their five hours out on delivery but is it reasonable for a manager to expect a full timer to have less than an hour of 'indoor' work during their eight hour day ?

take pictures of the mail you fetch back with the days date and send it to our outdoor cwu boss who has had talks with high royal mail bosses and they want these photos to get rid of managers that do this wilful delay you are allowed to take these pictures and managers cant stop you this came out on a union ltb

Okay, what I meant was part-timers coming in to their round already prepped and having the great majority of their five hour day as outdoor work.
But my question is whether it is reasonable for a manager to expect a full timer to have less than an hour of 'indoor' work during their eight hour day ?
