Will our legacy pay cut be backdated to April
A thought occurred to me, I wonder if RM will back date my pay cut to Apr 2017.
At minus £44 a week, that will be a decent amount to find.
I wouldn't put it past them.

I expect one of two things to happen with the legacy payments.
They'll kick it further down the field and agree to on going discussions on pay simplification with a possible timeline of 3 years.
They'll offer staff a buydown of legacy payments probably equal to about 3-5 years worth of payments.
Maybe a mixture of both.
What they won't do in my opinion is just stop them and what they can't do is backdate any withdrawal of legacy payments, that would almost certainly be unlawful.

Maybe if we all worked for free with no pensions or sick pay or even holidays and we would all be millionaires just a thought!rubberbond wrote:They don't need encouragement, there's enough silly ideas floating round as it is.

To be honest, I'd feel lucky - certainly not happy - if they did what they do when someone moves from a London weighting area to a non-London area. They freeze their basic level of pay which includes the weighting bit until everyone else's basic level of pay catches up.
Of course, this would take an enormous amount of work to fold each legacy payment into basic pay - everyone's a bit different - but you can always dream....

The problem with legacy payments in the future if RM get some of there way is.The staff who receive these payments ( myself included) will be top of the hit list.
We all have a price and if a new starter on much inferior terms and conditions and PAY can do the job.Who are RM going to want to employ???
I expect to see a massive increase in B&H , conduct issues and stage warnings in the next few years.

3-5 years I think you are kidding yourself.fishtank wrote:I expect one of two things to happen with the legacy payments.

As they have used the term "buy down" I think they will use the ready reckon-er I.E. a maximum of 104 weeks depending on service/age etc...
worst case scenario for the business is they have to pay you 2 years allowance in one go... after 2 years they are in front...
Would be better off with a Pay protection (3 years) option.. Or best case scenario would be to tread water whilst others catch up.
Only my opinion of course

I can see where you're coming from but using the ready reckoner wouldn't work, it's counter intuitive for those with the least amount of service to get the least amount of buydown since they have the most to lose and the business has most to gain from removing their legacy payments. It would have to be a fixed amount depending on the legacy payments involved.the beautiful bd south wrote:3-5 years I think you are kidding yourself.fishtank wrote:I expect one of two things to happen with the legacy payments.

I hope you're right... Can see the difference though as "buy down" in normal circumstance is voluntary..fishtank wrote:I can see where you're coming from but using the ready reckoner wouldn't work, it's counter intuitive for those with the least amount of service to get the least amount of buydown since they have the most to lose and the business has most to gain from removing their legacy payments. They could make it voluntarily and hope the carrot of a couple of grand is enough to tempt the majority but if it doesn't they're back to square one and to be honest it's only a wise move if you've only a few years left to go. Maybe they'll offer both, two years up front OR three years pay protection then nothing. That's going to be a tough choice for a lot of people.

Their offer in their letter is they want too remove all legacy payments by April 2018 and will pay the equivalent of 12 months compensation.
Incidentally they have also proposed everyone to go onto monthly pay from January 2018 with reducing loans in place to help with the transition from weekly to monthly !

Probably the APR would be 1000% as well as a two year tie in so they can cream us all for the benefit of the few at the top again!dingo wrote:Their offer in their letter is they want too remove all legacy payments by April 2018 and will pay the equivalent of 12 months compensation.
