Moving to five day week?

Someone at my office suggested moving to a mon-fri,This will save Royal Mail about £290m a year the person then said they should put it towards our pensions every year.

Union wouldn't entertain it , they say it would cost to many jobs although mon to fri would be welcomed by most full timers I'm sure .

It's just not going to happen. If Royal Mail gives up delivering/collecting on Saturdays then some other company will snap up the opportunity once the regulator rescinds our commitment to a Monday to Saturday service. That in turn would be costly not just in lost revenue but in lost jobs.

Now RM are saying the current pension would cost £1.3billion a year going forward,come on Cwu what are all the facts going forward with shorter working week,pensions etc.

I know RM want an end to 9-day fortnights so maybe that is where the confusion lies?

Union don't want it but from area reps upwards divisional reps. I doubt if any of them work Saturdays same as higher managers

Other couriers do this, only a matter of time before RM do this.

I wouldn't be surprised to see RM eventually offer Sunday delivery for a premium
