Lack of management

Today was absolutely ridiculous,
We had a Bank Holiday on Monday so the mail was going to be higher today . Not only that it was a Tuesday which is our early finish day on Delivery .
We also had extra D2Ds to deliver as having a day less to deliver them and the DOM said that 6 rounds were going to be lapsed and this was put up on the board before we had even started this morning. by 8.30am we still had 3 Yorks of manual Catalogues and other junk mail to sort with only 3 people on IPS due to the rest throwing off lapsed walks. Why didn't the DOM leave the junk mail for Wednesday which would have been like a usual Tuesday plus we have a later finish??
Everyone is going to finish early tomorrow but the DOM can't see it
Then there was massive cut offs and lapsing not taken, management are a joke and guess what, the fooked off early

I thought all delivery offices swapped Tuesday and Wednesdays hours over now after a bank holiday Monday.

I went to my lino and told him I wouldn't complete. Asked him what he wanted me to leave, his reply was a very abrupt 'do what you want'

It's no surprise the place is a dissaster when you have these incompetents trying to run the office

Common sense tells you its a later finish just work to Mondays time D2Ds can be done in five days no problem.

In effect they are paying you less on Monday if the swap the days over on BH weeks. It also has an effect if you work an average hours based scheme.

As with most things in life, it isn't as simple as it first looks.

I think some managers have long given up on the business, and have decided to lapse on the busiest days because they know its 'unachievable' and may expose certain failings within the company which is striving to cut costs by any means possible.

What is the mind set of people wanting to become managers within Royal Mail,what is it they want in this culture of fear within the organisation?are there good understanding managers about or do they get moved on or sacked?? What's happened to produce these people?

Monday has nothing to do with it,it is Tuesday and Wednesdays hours that swap over

Today was an absolute hammering in my office. Not so much letters, but small and large packets. I sometimes can't believe how much Amazon stuff my office receives, we had 18 large Amazon parcels on our shared van alone (plus 13 others). Most deliveries went over by up to an hour today....and everyone left their lapsing for the ghosters to hoover up.

Only if they swap Mondays hours for Tuesday.

If you are scheduled to work 8 hours on Monday and 7:30 on Tuesday and the swap them, then on Monday the pay you for less hours. On Tuesday they pay you for more, so in effect the 30 mins they should have paid you for enjoying a day off, they now pay you on Tuesday for working hard longer. They get more work out of you for the same pay.
