Mental health at work

Post by Batsugun »

Hi all,
Looking for a bit of advice. A colleague suffers from a mental health problem. He has been on medication fpr for a number of years but lately I feel he is getting slightly worse. He has always been the type of guy who takes the slightest joke to heart. But it seems recently that he is paranoia has really been in over drive. Somebody can say something to him on a Monday and by Friday he believes a whole story has happened. He is becoming slightly unhinged.

My main concern is our management are ill-equipped to say the least regarding it. They seem to think it is acceptable to brush it under the carpet and give him more work to keep him out the way.

Is there anyway of getting someone else involved without management thinking we are out to get them?I understand it is down to the individual to seek more medical help but that is a personal problem for him and his family.

Perhaps as a unit we could suggest getting managers better training to deal with mental health problems in the work place?

Cheers

Best thing is don't joke with him/her you don't know what kind of pressure they are under by their boss or at home to some banter in the workplace is away of getting through the day others see it as a nightmare. Sorry to say this one persons heaven is hell to someone else maybe talking with them and helping them but if they do threaten you must report it!

Royal Mail do not want to know about Mental Health issues whatever they say in the courier, you ever have to live with the bullying(which can effect your hole life) if the bullying is that bad or leave

Help is available if you’re concerned for yourself, or a colleague

If you are concerned about your own or a colleague’s mental health, recognising the signs and asking for help can turn things around.

This year we have produced a series of five short films, in partnership with The Mental Health Foundation, to help support colleagues. The films also offer advice to those wanting to support a colleague or friend who is struggling.

You can also find advice and support on our website http://www.rmgfirstclasssupport.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or at http://www.feelingfirstclass.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
