Disturbance Payment?????

I am looking for information. If someone is on the duty list and they turn up for that duty, but managers turn around and send them home as there is no work or they are not needed that day, are they due any sort of compensation payment. If so where would I find that information please.

many thanks in advance.

firstly it would depend on their type of contract of employment and contracted hours but I am guessing that on what you are describing that this someone is an agency worker. Before giving further information can you confirm that this is the case.

If as a reserve he has been listed for a duty for that day and arriving at work for the starting time that the duty requires then he has made himself available to fulfill that duty and it is no fault on his part that the business is unable to find work and is down to careless resourcing. Find it difficult to understand why a business of this size could not find other work for him outwith the duty he was listed rather than taking the option of sending him home. Needs to contact his union rep to ensure that the hours he was due to undertake for that day have been used in his total contracted hours if its 20 as you state.

Done same thing with me when I first started. Just trying it on. Unless you want that day as you're day off just insist they find you something, which they have to do. Not you're problem if they've messed up staffing.
Suppose in theory you could claim for travel time and mileage, but you would have to clear it with them first. More likely they'll find you something to do.
