Clocking in out using fingerprint?

Have heard rumours they are bringing in this technology for clocking in/out? Anyone else heard this?

It's bullshit

People are confusing finger scannes which fit on your fingers and which are used to scan parcels in a mailcentre with finger print scanners.

No it's different. It's clocking in/out with fingerprint scanners. Some other companies already use it (Amazon?).
In mail centres it can also be used to clock in and out when you go to the toilet or move to another section. It was mentioned in the Mount Pleasant bulletin, posted by Anna on here a couple of weeks ago that it was being considered by management there.

So, the company goes ahead and buys hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of equipment. They then pay some managers to painstakingly analyse the data in each mail centre.

The result is that the company saves two pounds and change in actual OPG costs in the first quarter in each mail centre. Less once you take away the time lost for crowds of folk lining up to swipe in and out of each area. After that, the whole scheme gets quietly ignored. The swipe out stations stay, though, gathering dust as monuments to one more flavor-of-the-month management fad.

I used to work for the coop about 6 years ago and they had finger scanning clocking machines. You had to type a personal code in and scan your finger.

They go on the scrap heap with all the other stupid initiatives ,trialled and then abandoned at great cost,(world class mail, anybody? ), yet you try claiming half an hours overtime and see what response you get.

Yes Royal Mail have invested in software which is linked to PSP and is based on what many gyms now have that you scan in with your thumb and scan out.

They want to trial this approach in a number of sites and they would also like to pay and record hours based on this technology. They have also expressed their desire to have this broken out into each task and use it as a resourcing tool but this is a lot more difficult. This is what Royal Mail have formally discussed and written to the CWU on under the data capture trial.

Apparently this technology is used in places like Amazon warehouses and several other large businesses.

Nothing to worry about if you arrive and leave on time. It's just like digi card it shows when you arrive and leave as you download when you arrive and download when you leave at my office

I got no problem with it

It might stop ghost overtime and the goodwill of a few posties who regularly do loads of overtime for the managers. It might just mean that everyone will have to start leaving loops if they know they might not get paid any 'agreed overtime' with the managers for it; and the managers will just have to go out and deliver themselves. As if they didn't do enough in our office already.

Know people who have worked at Amazon. They don't use fingerprint that I know. But you have to log in and out of every task, breaks, any period of inactivity with you're badge.
They count every minute and every item packaged. If you fall below a certain level. It's three strikes, then retraining. If you still don't perform, you're out the door. Random drug testing. Timed toilet breaks. List goes on.
If this is the direction that RM want to aim towards. Not good.

Would love to know how RM will get this to work in our SPDO , haven't even got a router for the PDAs we have to rely on a flaky mobile signal.

It would definately stop ghost overtime, but they'd still be paid the overtime they worked.
