How to get lots of free hours!!

Yes that's right, free hours. If you run around, don't use any delivery methods and finish over 2hrs before your time then you can do OT and make a bargain with the manager to get lots of free hours. Well that is what one postman is doing in our office which I find pretty disgusting if i'm being honest.
How is it fair for someone to be on a duty where they can do both duties when we are short staffed and get 6 hours extra pay but still finish by 2.30pm and then because the manager is desperate they will then pay them an extra 2hrs to do a row of mail that will take about 40 minutes.
It's alright managers banging on about safety but when it comes to the favourites in the office then they will soon turn a blind eye. This is a part time postman that has 5.30am starts pretty much guaranteed, can work 6 days a week (because he is quick) and will regularly get to the 70hr mark in per week when infact he probably hasnt done 50hrs.He is even starting to kick off because when he is on annual leave that he should be entitled to more than his basic hours because of all the OT he does.
Funny thing is, nothing is done by the union rep.
Anyone else have someone in their office like this?

Strange how the rule book is thrown out the window if it suits ?
The workings within Royal Mails management is becoming obscene.
WHO holds them to account ? Yeh even more con men further up he greasy pole.

Another way of getting "free hour" is by being lazy, drag your feet and do hardly any work. Drag one round out till 5pm then book extended delivery. Slower your are the less work you do the more you get paid.

How the hell can you drag it out until 5? Are they delivering in the outback,with a delivery area the size of Belgium?

It's not about being bitter, it's about double standards and it's about giving those do not get any overtime a chance to earn some hours and it's also about the fact they need to then create a job for someone or increasing PT hours.

We are paid by the hour, not piece rate.

If I was a manager and had duties to cover I wouldn't be walking around asking everybody who I know don't usually do overtime if they want to do extra I would go to the people who I know will do it. If somebody else wanted the overtime they have a voice and can ask. Making PT to FT would not cover daily sickness.

That does beg a few questions.

1. What do you expect the rep to do.
2. What are you prepared to do if you find it disgusting.

1 and 2 are connected, without your backing and your colleagues as well, the rep can't do anything.

I'm sure moya will be interested, if you have the balls to tell her. I would as, as you say it's disgusting when others are being bullied and questioned about 20 mins protaction to finish their round.

there is loads of unfairness in RM. ....Part timers doing more D2D the some F/Ts but being paid less. some blokes getting early morning overtime every day. some people get lieu days on a Saturday whenever they ask when others can't. union reps not doing lapsing cos they've got 15 new houses on their duty and ''won't have time''. it stinks to high heaven but it is endemic in RM and always will be.

Some of the experienced posties in our office refuse to take out their lapsing as they would go over when in fact the same posties are the first to finish each day at around 1pm and then come back for OT on collection.

What are you getting at? If they finish at 1pm and their finishing time is 1pm then they aren't doing anything wrong. They can choose when and what overtime then want to do.
