A few guys in my office wear headphones while out on delivery what's the rule on that? I got told by my union rep it's okay just to wear one in?

Our DOM said no to any headphones. He's a bully and quite spiteful so he might of just said it because he can.

I wear just one, for a bit of radio and any phone calls, it is not illegal to wear them.

lets look at it another way
are we going to ban every member of public for wearing them
are they issued with h&s warnings on purchasing items
i know the prob mgmt cant have us happy while out on delivery
i wear mine, when i want, how i want

Officially I think the answer is no, you can't wear them because of health and safety. You obviously cannot wear them whilst driving as that's illegal. Whilst walking you should be paying full attention in order to hear hazards etc

This isn't my opinion. This is what I remember from my induction 6 years ago.

Its common sense really not to wear them on delivery and in the office in case there is a fire alarm going off or a customer shouts you on the street etc, but if the DOM gets assy ask him or her to go and get the Business standard booklet 2017 which every employee got delivered to their home and ask him or her to point it out in the bookelet. They can't because it not in the booklet so therefore you CAN wear them unless they show you in writing otherwise.

Some induction you were at. Wearing headphones while driving is not explicitly illegal, the practice is dangerous and could result in prosecution if deemed to be the cause of an accident.

I Don't understand why anyone would wear headphones in the office or outside earphones maybe yes but not headphones...

dont know about it being a h&s issue. there is a deaf and dumb postie at ours..how can it be h&s. just saying.

I wear my wireless earphones on delivery. Only have 1 in with the volume low and stop it when I have to knock on a house. Never has it been said that we can't wear them and at least half the office do it.

Officially no you're not supposed to wear headphones/earphones. But what is going to happen to you? Is the IB going to pull you up and report you? not likely. I find time passes quicker when I listen to music or some LBC on my earphones.

What I do... my headphones have a microphone so one click of the controls and the music pauses, also I'd tell any smartass lino: "They're not headphones it's my handsfree solution for driving/pushing my trolley, I'm only wearing the aformentioned "solution" for my own safety/the safety of the general public, I don't want to endanger public safety whilst driving or whilst handling a 122kg HCT. If you have any further questions please discuss them with my union rep

."

Well let's hope your not allowed to use them,so management can have another job to enforce etc etc,nice to listen to some lovely relaxing classical music while the manager is climbing the walls and getting stressed with lapsing and failed deliveries etc,it will be just like the uniform code no doubt i.e.,where what you like look as scruffy as you like,get away with what you like,management project for the week above real issues,see who's wearing headphones and deal with them appropriately!!
